What Ven says is absolutely correct. Also BPs are more sensitive to change, so when you get a new BP you have to leave them be until they take their first meal with you. During their rest period I get them used to maintenance I do in their cage.
The temp and humidity levels are pretty much the same for a baby as an adult. A proper breeder has every baby eating before they leave their care. But if you are worried about something that is more likely to hunger strike, then you can get an adult. I find adult BPs to be more chill than the babies. My adult Imogen literally let a toddler have a tea party with her the other day (Supervised) and she just was observant of everything. Not stressed in the least.
If it's an adult with a history of being chill and it's been handled consistently, it'd probably be a safer bet, but they're reptiles. Way different than cats and dogs and such in the personality department
My ball python is not difficult or picky. I have had some that are, and I have had some that are not. It is all about knowing their care requirements and sticking to them. I do not really tend to judge based on baby behavior, everything tends to be more picky as a baby. I have had to force feed my fair share of corn snakes, ball pythons, boas, and even hognose adults and babies. You just gotta know their care and enrichment requirements.
I got nailed by a baby python, right after feeding it. The bite didnÂ’t hurt at all, and it let go immediately. I was more worried that the baby snake would get hurt by falling to the floor. IÂ’ve had shots that hurt much worse than the snake bite
