They are not always meant for someone just because they are free. Sometimes it's just stables leaving. But many people will leave a horse if it has a note attached that it's reserved for someone, so don't just put it up in hope nobody else will buy that horse. Or get premium which solves that problem!

exactly! I wish there were timers or something on the feeding and paying quests, maybe so the feed ones only appear Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon and the accountant one only the last 4 or 5 days of the month
If you have Dapple Blend Grain, you can feed it to your horse and their coat will dapple.
The effect will wear off after a few days. One pound of grain will be fed at a time.
If you feed Senior Blend to your senior horse they will have a 10% decreased chance in dying
when the weekly script runs on Monday morning. The effect lasts for one weekly cycle.

Edit your horse's remarks. Keep all content PG-13.
Choose a Background for your horse.
Withdraw your horse from it's team. You will lose all team points for this horse. Please discuss this action with the team manager first.
Your horse may show 3 times per week. Shows run daily. Your horse and rider will gain valuable experience from showing. Select a discipline to show in, or scratch from tonight's show.
Showing in the special weekly shows doesn't count against your horse's weekly regular show count.
