And honestly, to put fear in them, you have to have interaction with them. That's not exactly an easy thing when they come up to the house when everyone's already in bed

I started carrying a firearm on trails because of crazy meth heads in the national forest where we used to ride, and then kept carrying once I realized it might be crucial in other emergent situations. Such as an animal attack, or god forbid having to do the humane thing for a grievously injured horse.

Yeah my friend said she didnt think one would ever attack and that she felt more comfortable just leaving them alone. I told her she needs to get comfortable at least scaring them away, or stop going out solo.

It's a big issue with bears at national parks

Yeah Coyotes are going into cities now.
Fort Smith is a city, they are spotted frequently there.

Neh. Depends on where you're at. There's plenty of instances of wild animals not having fear of human

yeah, feral dog packs are still a problem outside of most cities. they're much worse than coyotes because they're domesticated animals and have very little fear of humans. it's easier to keep wild animals scared of us than it is to keep feral ones scared.

Yeah. Look at Fort Smith AR.
Coyotes and Feral Dogs. Phenomenal

Ah yes. Let us allow the wild predators to follow *nodnod*
I have a firearm I keep by the back door, locked up of course, but it does the job. Unless Jupiter is outside, then he starts the job and I finish it.

I meaaan, if you're in the country feral dog packs are very much a thing lmfao. People like to drive out into the country and dump their dogs/entire litters

We have cougars nearby in mountains. IÂ’m tired of seeing people complain about them when they Literally keep building their houses further and further into the mountains.

My friend and I were attacked by a coyote on our last trail ride. Unfortunately I had to shoot it to protect us and our horses. She later told me that sometimes she lets coyotes follow her when she is out solo and we had to have a big talk about why it is not some cute Snow White moment when that happens.

thankfully any attempt at driving the coyote to extinction has epically failed. they just have bigger litter sizes, and breed more often. if we didn't have coyotes, we'd have feral dog packs instead. that's actually what we had in US cities before the huge feral dog extermination in i believe the late 1800s. i really enjoyed the book "coyote america" by dan flores, and "rabid" by monica murphy on these subjects.

Well, they are capable of that. Poor horse.

And I mean, my neighborhood has not had the coyote issue until fairly recently. Used too we would see one or two and admire them- now it is almost every night I see a couple. And they are huge as fuck too.

This one killed a neighbor's horse

We have cougars moving back in. Ranchers are seeing them quite often. They leave them alone though, they tend to stay away for the most part.

My neighbors would do the same to them. There is no relocation service for them. Just easier to SSS

...which was real fun when there were cougar sightings about a decade ago. We don't have cougars in this area
