Dip, that's tough! I'm hard of hearing but I can communicate with people verbally when I wear my hearing aids and the person is no more than a few feet away and directly in front of me. I had to fight to keep this job until we got a new HR executive. The new guy is hardcore about ADA and assured me I will always have a job here for as long as I want to work here, even if my hearing loss progresses and I become totally deaf. He's gone to bat for other employees, too. Middle management is less than impressed but arguing with an executive is unwise.
Finding employers that can accommodate disabilities can be tough, but the ones that do are golden. Never give up!
I would die to have a decent barn near me to work at. I had a friend once offer me my dream job to train his horses for him.. but doing so would require moving to Germany. I shed a tear that day LOL
My boss expected 28 horses to have water buckets dumped scrubbed and filled(2 per horse) then turn all out into separate paddocks muck all stalls turn horses back in and feed plus drag the arena in an hour and a half no breaks and no fridge or drinks available and when you brought your own drinks she would get mad at you oh and all the horses were terrible to handle and fought when you took more than one at a time plus she refused to fix her stalls and the pee would never fully go away because there was no Mats on dirt floors and she expected 2 inches of shavings in the entire stall no shavings touching the walls had to be 2 inches away from the walls and no dirty shavings at all but don't use too many shavings and don't waste anything and also scrub the corner feeders
I have a love hate relationship with my old barn. I never liked my boss but I really miss my trainer while I was there
My boss was unorganized and expectations where never clear. I was also supposed to stay for certian hours but all my work in a day I could do in half the time
However my trainer there was the nicest person and helped me so much
I quit my other job at another barn. I was a working student and the communication was horrible. Hardly got to ride. Which I understand happens in a working student scenario but I think I rode a total of 7 times in a year?
There is a fridge at my barn job with bottled water but everyone still just brings their own. But it's there in case we need to refill or something. Which I've never had to do. I have a giant water bottle.
My job at a horse barn nearly made me quit the equestrian world for good it was awful but each barn is different and some people don't deserve to run barns
Eury, the law must be different in my state. My local pharmacies always close for up to one hour so the staff can take a meal break. Regulars know when the pharmacy is closed mid-day, and work around it.

Your horse may show 3 times per week. Shows run daily. Your horse and rider will gain valuable experience from showing. Select a discipline to show in, or scratch from tonight's show.
