Yeah parents are not like that anymore. They complain if the show runs 1 minute past 8 I learned at my first one. I did not understand it one bit, school is out for them, it is not for me. I stayed 12 flipping hours at the show and showed in 2 classes. Not a complaint from me

110+ heat indexes do require special management. Ride super early, ride later in evening.
Just a matter of what one is trying to accomplish.

For us, summer did mean a bit easier workouts, as the eventing comps died down until fall. But we had PC Champs, and other sorts of shows to do as well. So maintaining fitness is importsnt.

The choice is easy for me.
With high heat and humidity here. If it is over a feels like of 97 I slow down on work load. I personally cannot handle heat well, and I have been riding for a few years now, I work part time at my barn I ride at now, heat is not my friend lol

Summer is a walk and trails time for us. I also use this time to practice braiding, touch up on ground manners that kinda thing. Very chill for us both

Lols wraith. Our shows went until around 1-2 a.m., but we still had plenty of youth riders enter. It was summer, and the weekend, so parents didnÂ’t mind.
Younger ones showed earlier, and then often slept in truck or just hung out while their siblings or parents finished showing.
Was very family friendly and horse folks gonna horse I guess, no matter what time

We have night shows here. But most of our competitors are children, under 18.
My barn mostly has 7-16 year olds. In fact I am oldest competitor at 26 at my barn.
They complained because the last show ended at 9 pm. I cannot imagine getting them to do a night show lol

I always explain to my lesson kids that the horses do worse in the heat for the same reason they do better in the cold than us- they run at a higher body temp, they're bigger and fuzzier. It's just unfair to expect them to maintain the same level of intense work as we ask them in the summer

Temps here in central KY forecast to be anywhere between 86 and 92 thru July 4th.
Just normal summertime

Yeah I cannot do extreme heat. And will not expect my horse to do it either. I pay to do this, not get paid to do this. And I want my horse to be able to show in more shows, not collapse and not be able to show ever again lol. The choice is easy for me

In NC we hosted shows year round, but our summer shows were night shows and didnÂ’t begin until 6 pm.

Never had good heat tolerance thanks to my eds and getting heat exhaustion as a kid only tanked that tolerance.

Well no 100* heat here or in the forecast so far.

Fitness and acclimation to heat is the key, and then proper precautions if it goes to extremes on certain days

I mean you do what you do for the sport you are apart of. But, when it is over 100 with 100% humidity that is super intense heat for me and the horses. So that is why we do not host any outdoor shows in July. And then awhile back the decision was made to not host any because it was just smoldering by then

Am riding to keep some level of fitness and ability to endure the heat, and also working the border collies for the same reason, so they can go and do the things we sign up for and not be unfit for them.

Lots of cold water hosing, cooling vests, water troughs for the dogs to jump in.
ItÂ’s all good.
Been competing thru the summer ever since I was 10, and proper fitness and management then the heat is not an issue
