Yeah, that's my thought. I have to consider 2k+ euro for the therapy dog qualification anyways, and i think the training for human and dog is set for at least 1 year. Thankfully my boss would be paying half of it.

On top of that, a dog needs to qualify first to be able to become a therapy dog, means it would need the "Begleithundeprüfung" which you can only pass at 15 months.

I am pretty much in horror over what people are mxing Border Collies with these days for *designer dogs*
They are pretty much the full package as they are, when purchasing good working bred ones!

Did you check out if that breeder in Tyrol has some to rehome, Tosk?

Miniatures are more expensive here as well, than standards.
I have a mule friend that breeds them in TN. But I am not a fan. Too many other breeds were mixed in to make them *mini* so I prefer the intelligence of the standard Aussie.

And yes, any breed not properly trained can be a bad dog.
Especially breeds meant to work or protect

ThatÂ’s pretty cool Pon! And honestly IÂ’d pay the extra for one whoÂ’s already well on their way with training for therapy!

Aussies do thrive with training. Any breed can be terrible without training. Plus because Aussies are herding /guardian dogs, they can tend to be more standoffish with strangers. I have an Aussie and a Golden Shiba. In my area most Aussie s go for around 1k -1500. And mines CKC registered.

The one breeder i am currently looking at, pre-trains the pups that are going into therapy dog training. And they are completely house-trained before they go to their new home.

If i were to look for a standard aussie with the same requirements, I'd be at 1.5k something. But that's mostly because the miniature is still a new breed to Germany

Well my old girl, a standard Aussie, i bought 14 years ago and paid 1k for her. The miniature Aussie i got 3 years ago, during Covid, was 1k as well. But she had no papers whatsoever. I'd say the price for the miniature from a decent breeder with papers and a therapy dog foundation, has been around 2k to 3k for the past 5 years.

They are not so wonderful when the owner does no basic training with them. The one next door is just vicious-has bitten 3 people that I know of-she (owner) paid them off to keep them from reporting it.

I bought a new stud dog for $6000 back in april, you can bet I am not selling his puppies in the bargain basement range. Not with his pedigree and proven working lines.

Aussies are absolutely wonderful dogs. Tho here in the US they arenÂ’t quite as expensive .

Already innrecession if you ask me.
The 3.5 years of extreme inflation has done that job.

And yep, pups I buy/sell are usually in the 2000 range these days. People want that same quality fir 500 because *I have bills* or *we had to buy school clothes* or whatever.
Trust me, that initial purchase is the least of your expenses!

Miniature American Shepherd / Mini Aussie.

I've been looking for a while as it is supposed to be trained into a therapy assistance dog for my work.. But i've kept pushing it far from me because i didn't want to get a third dog. But now that my old girl passed i don't want my younger one to be alone for too long..

@Kat I love my ancient Kerrits ones, but those are fairly see through xD I also have some Ariats that are made of thicker material and aren't see through though, those might be some to look into :)
