Well, I am sure they aren't strays as they look well fed, even fat.

Live animal traps are not that expensive. If you don’t even know who owns the cats, if anyone, then you can’t do anything else besides get rid of them yourself if animal control won’t do it.
Trap them and take them to the animal shelter in your county.
Sounds like they are 100% strays so if cannot confront an owner, then yes, you have to change how you manage your own, or make sure the strays go bye-bye

what about one of them cable dog run thingies? Like, the cord from one tall thing to another with a slidey thing on it to tie him to.
(My brain ain't braining, I've had a long day😭)

Well, thanks for listening to my rant. I have some ideas now and realize it is ultimately up to me to keep my cat safe.

I have thought about buying a catio, but we are renters and I think the snow in winter might ruin it.

@Hummer, ah. In that case I'd report it to your council or animal control. Depends on where you are too since everywhere has different laws

I knew a guy who made like a chicken run for his cats. It was like 4ftw x 15ft lx 6ft h roofed with chicken wire. He was afraid the coyotes would get them.

We had a cat once that showed up. It was super aggressive and went after my daughter one day. It went bye bye after that. If it's causing a threat to your animals or your family you can take care of it.

Well I am rural and we have our own ways of dealing with dangerous strays.
But if in town, then Animal Control is the way, and if they do nothing, call the news folks. That works in rural areas too.
Meanwhile it is still your responsibility to be the advocate for your own pet!

Oh well, at least my cat is ok. I will be more careful next time with the leash and having my dog out with me.

@Chessum, I don't know where they are coming from. There's three of them.

@Full stride, I wouldn't be as upset if we were more rural, but we are in the middle of the suburbs.

Have you spoken to the owner about what's happening?

I have never lived anywhere that there were not roaming cats. It’s kinda what they do.
Call animal control or manage the situation with your own animals much better.
I mean, if it is a known problem, then don’t go out with your cat, as already mentioned, or maybe not be distracted.

@Penta, I have a hose. I might spray them next time. Or like I said, my dog. Although they have hissed and swatted at him before too.

@Penta, you're right, that is a solution. But, I enjoy taking my cat out as it is good enrichment and he looks forward to it. Next time I am just going to make sure my dog stays with me as he likes to chase them off.
