Wolf Oh jeez lol. I had to teach our beagle mix an off switch for that exact thing. Basically you get them in a sit stay or just generally existing near you and when they calm, you give them like a relax or chill, or we use settle and over time they associate that with oh I need to calm down. We also have a stop bathing command lol
They are usually inside the house and Poppy can go through the night without asking to be let out. After their dinner I let them out in the yard and usually start cleaning the cat litterboxes. That's when she usually gets up to mischief - even though she loves people giving her attention.
Also, I don't know why I don't think of minpins as being little but they are. I think cause I think of beucerons and dobbies when I think of them and some food fast cat runners
Kelan Speaking of training, do you have any suggestions for teaching basics? I trained our first dog when he was a pup and he picked things up fine but my new pup thinks every time I speak weÂ’re playing a game, no matter my tone or body language 😭
I have a Papillon and she gets told off regularly for shenanigans, especially if she barks outside and riles up the borzois to be her bodyguards, who otherwise wouldn't give a shit about people passing by.
I'm not sure if they're still around as we don't speak anymore, but my mother had two yorkies and a maltese/yorkie, and her house was insane. They barked at every sign of movement and she never potty trained them properly.
I want going to go there, but it's so true. They have had to get trained while at my house because even though they are little we give our dogs boundaries and these ones are going to learn to follow that as well. I've been calling it little dog boot camp. The older one has picked it up pretty well. The young one is dumber than bricks, but will at least walk all right now after 4 days unless there is another dog.
Fey Agreed. There are too many people that think smaller dogs dont need training because they cant do any damage or are “friendly”. I hate seeing it.
And that's not even counting their tiny bladders that they can't hold for more than 3 hours, their terrible teeth, and that you have to clean their faces because most of them have small muzzles that make their eyes buldge so they tear up a lot.
I feel like people don't train small dogs properly because theyre always at the end of their leashes strangling themselves. Its horrible to watch. My Dali/pointer mix always heels on a walk, she never barks and its very good in general.
Wolf We are dog sitting my friends two shihtzus, one is moved with at least papillon while the other is purebred. They are...a thing. They are so small and not dexterous it's so easy to step on them, these ones at least are dumb as a brick, though I've only met one little dog with any kind of brain. I feel like I'm going to break them on a walk because of their small necks. Their voices are so high pitched, I don't mind barking but these grate.
