@Athena - I know what you mean! I had a male GP for ages that kept telling me what I had was normal, insisted on seeing a female GP and was referred for scans and diagnosed within a few weeks
I lucked out and had an amazing pediatrician who also practiced family medicine, so I had the same doctor until I got my own insurance and had to switch. Personally, I've found that female doctors take me (female) more seriously
I'm switching doctors but staying in the same clinic so we'll see how it goes. New one is also female so maybe she won't blame everything on hormones and actually listen when I ask questions
@Void - I think I'm quite lucky that the hospital I work at really pushes patient centred care and patients are constantly involved in the decision making process
