Athena, my parents were the exact opposite. They didn't care one whit about grades. They valued sports and I was extremely un-athletic. I was so bad I was dangerously bad! So I pushed myself to get perfect grades to make up for my failures. They still didn't care. LOL! I was the first person in my family to go to college, and it showed. XD

Unfortunately, I also had a reputation for being a "troubled youth" when I was in high school. Everyone assumed I was up to no good, even when I was on my best behavior, so I can totally relate to that one.

I would freak when I got a 99 on a test in high school. It would feel like I failed. I've gotten better a little bit. I have one B+ assignment that makes me cringe but I'm trying to use it as a learning and growth thing

@Athena, I am the same way. My Mom freaked out when I got a B+ in math one semester in high school. Plus I was told my B+ grades in college would never be good enough for me to get into my program.

I believe it. I'm an overachiever(not proud of it) and raised to be 'perfect' with straight As. Even the thought of being accused of cheating scares the shit out of me for many reasons

My college is so worried about cheating on tests we aren't allowed to have scrap paper. =/

Athena, you're right! That's different.

I'm not sure then. I graduated from high school in the 90s. Plagiarism has always been a big deal but AI wasn't a thing yet, obviously. I never had to worry about that.

I was accused of plagiarism on a paper I submitted in college because it was "too good". That professor had never read anything I had written before. Once I got over the panic (potential expulsion OMG) I brought all of my notes and rough drafts into her office to prove the work was mine. I also showed her other essays I'd written for previous classes. She accepted the paper and I got an A+. It took a long time to come down from that stress, though!

As far as points go, horses will only earn fed points if they place in the top 4.

The whole turnitin and AI checking is weird. Marks the wrong things sometimes and ignores the problems. Sometimes

Honestly, it'll just depend on the instructor. Some want below a certain percent, others want above a certain amount

Yup. mine somehow had zero even though I used direct quotes(cited)

<_> that wouldn't have ever worked for me. I never did outlines or rough drafts. I once turned in a rough draft and the instructor graded it as the finished paper lmfao

is there a guide anywhere on how points for federations work? they don't seem to gain points consistently with how often they show or how well they place and i'm not finding anything in help

This isn't an actual paper or I would. It's just a question that gets answered by 5-7 sentences

@Allons-y, did you listen to the song? Yes, the story is about that, but I think it also highlights that risks are worth taking.

turnitin also compares against published papers for similarity

The best defense against plagiarism and accusations of using AI is to save all of your notes, outlines, brainstorming, snippets, rough drafts, and everything else that went into creating the written piece of work. Use them to show your process and how much work you put into writing it. It's a pain, but worth it in the end.

An added bonus, seeing how the writing progressed from sloppy first draft to polished final draft can be a real confidence boost!
