I unfortunately have had a VERY negative experience with colleges. Been screwed over too many times. Would have dropped out, but all the jobs I want require a degree. Can't wait to kiss my "alma mater" goodbye though. I am not even even going to attend graduation.

Barring that, colleges are going to look at highschool grades. So, by not trying, you'll shoot yourself in the foot

Beeecause you still have to place well on the entrance exam, else you have to pay extra for remedial classes?

Buut yes, highschools should definitely have better quality education, but that's hard to do when they keep getting gutted and the money goes to sports

Why even try in high school though if you can just retake the classes in college? Just doesn't make sense to me.

...It's also worth pointing out that the average reading level in the US is 8th grade. So, it's very understandable that they want people to redo courses.

@Olds gods, well we could change that by creating standards. Instead we choose to pay thousands of dollars to take classes.

In freshman comp, we peer read each other's papers and marked errors that we found. Most of the just out of highschool kids had atrocious grammar

Not all highschools are created equally

It's higher level skills. Grade school math won't do crap for medical jobs

@Olds gods, I think high school should be good enough for that though. I have family in Sweden and they think it is ridiculous that you have to redo english, math, etc.

the hoops are there to kinda make sure people are going to be able to do the work.

I just don't know why I am paying a college when I am teaching myself. They don't do ANYTHING. My professors don't answer emails or questions. Instead of teaching, they just tell stories or read directly from the textbook too.

I think mine is 11k in tuition per year? 5.5k per semester I believe. The fees are crazy

@Unkown, really? That is a lot. I am currently paying about $4,000/semester just to attend.
