it was really good and really creepy until you figure out the twist and then you're just like oh okay. which honestly most horror books i've read so far have been like that, super creepy until the Reasonable Explanation enters the chat
Not sure how to say without spoiling the twist. I personally didn't think it was bad reading it, but I'm not from the demographic that would be hurt by it and a lot of people in the goodreads reviews were upset so it's just worth mentioning I think. Mostly to do with transgender issues
But like. Genuinely, the creepiest creepiest ghost story/horror-esque books I've read have been the Lockwood and Co series. It's middle grade, but Stroud does NOT hold back on description
I liked From Below. Darcy Coates is great in general. Hidden Pictures was fun, if kinda problematic... I'm not sure Kala counts as horror but it is a pretty fucked up mystery so there's that. Into The Drowning Deep if you like your horror with a fantasy twist
