Flax seed is very good. I feed whole flax and oil. Definitely have seen improvement with outer and inner health with my lot. Good to hear your research for her has helped you too.
She has bad allergic reactions to fly bites and will just get covered in hives. So, I was looking to see if there was some antihistamine I could maybe give her. Found a site talking about fly allergies and how flax seed is commonly used because omega 3s have anti-inflammatory properties. Researched that to make sure it wasn't bunk. There's some science behind it. So, I put her on it and started taking omega 3s. Joint pain is a lot better and she doesn't react to fly bites as badly
I've taken over her care and foot the bill for everything. Since she lets me do more with her than everyone else, I can identify issues. Then, sit down and do my own research. Amusingly, my research for her to put her on the flax seed helped my own health issues
She gets a lot of issues that are consistent with 'menopause', quoting mom and her research. Putting her on flax seed helped out her skin issues. I've pretty much kept a blanket on her since it started getting into the 40s and she's very happy
Some horses don't I had a mare that never grew a good winter coat. Always sleek to the point that if it got dry I'd do a Mayo bath to help her skin out.
If you have Dapple Blend Grain, you can feed it to your horse and their coat will dapple.
