Gotta read the labels, and again, be willing to look elsewhere, even inside the big stores.
Even walmart has some smaller labels that are not just big corp under a different label. Just have to be willing to look for them, and maybe do without what is the normal grab and buy items.
*laughs in town of 5 mill* I do miss getting our meat from our local butcher and eggs and such from our farmer friends. It is nice not having to drive 30 min to town though!
So glad to be in a town of less than 1000 then and have our amazing little Save A Lot store. And one in the next bigger town over too.
Will gladly drive right past walmart to shop elsewhere. We also have an amazing meat processor within 2.5 miles, and local farmers & Amish all around that sell from their farms and set up in local parking lots for fresh produce. Yum!
Many brands are owned by the same conglomerates. There was a dude on YouTube doing videos of grocery isles and what were actual family brands and what were giant corporation brands. It may surprise people what may be seen as “small brands” is actually owned by the big four
It's a town of less than 4500 people. There legitly isn't any other stores that's in the local area. Prior to walmart being built, we'd have to drive to the next town over
FDA is a joke in general, honestly. Pretty much all foods allow "junk" in them to a point. I will still take dirt over chemicals. Goodness knows I am pretty much immune to whatever dirt carries after years of working with animals and outside and in dusty arenas/barns when traveling lolz
Sav A Lot, Aldi stores, both carry mostly private label brands from smaller companies, not the mega corps.
I am quite sure there are comparable smaller groceries all over the country if one were to look for them. Never ever had an issue with bad food from any smaller stores I shopped at.
I did nOt think there were any in my area in Nc either, but then I actually listened to some folks talking about getting groceries other than walmart, kroger, and other big name stores.
The smaller stores meant going off the main drag roads, cause they also look for more affordable locations to build.
