I have issues with my hands being too light. That is why they are there. My trainer would not do it for someone who is heavy handed. All people are evaluated when they ride the first time for stuff like that.
Rain, that's what I was taught to do, too. My instructor had me try a bunch of different horses at the barn, so I could get a feel for different strides and personalities. The big draft cross mare, Missy, was prone to bolting and crowhopping when she was feeling playful. So I learned real fast to turn her nose to the girth to keep control of her and keep us both safe. She responded quickly, too, and gave a "Aw! You're no fun!" sigh when I released the pressure. She was a good girl, but surprisingly high energy for a draft cross. Must be from the TB side of her family.
If it unsafe, then I can point it out to my trainer, she is always welcome to something that is truly unsafe. If it is something that you do not agree with, then we agree to disagree and move on. None of these horses are in pain, I can assure you that. Regular vet/chiro/farrier visits. Not a single one is allowed to be ridden/shown if they are not 100% sound.
Agreed I do not know you, your trainer, or the horses, just what you have chosen to share :) From what I've seen though I've seen some questionable tack choices and comments, and just pointed that out im not trying to attack you at all
So you agree you do not know the situation, and leave it at agree to disagree? Because you do not know me or my trainer in person, just like I do not know you or your horses in person, you have no idea how/why/what/when Just what I have chosen to share.
lucky I'm just gonna say that my little spitfire of a mare absolutely plays games like that. She's the definition of 'give an inch, they'll take a mile' >>;
The only times my horse bucks is when she gets excited on a trail ride and i dont let her run, and sometimes in the outdoor when she gets exited. I flex her head towards her girth and circle her
(And before you pop to vet, he had epm as a baby and gets not only full vet work up every 3 mos but a chiro work up 😘 but oh wait you know the horse more)
My mare was just a fraction of an inch shorter than 14.2 hands. She was built like a horse from her shoulders back but had the short, thick neck, cute head, and tiny ears of a pony. My riding instructor said it looked like God started by building a short horse and ran out of horse necks and heads. So, she got a pony neck and head instead! LOL! She was fun, though!
