It means the horse is dominant for dark based colours and cannot produce chestnut/red foals. And with pearl many try and get apricot, which isn't possible in the first generation when you have EE pearl horses.

Yeah recently roan has been a menace here too. Even if I breed a hetero roan to a non roan it somehow shows up - but then the tobi gets skipped even though both parents have it!
