Do you weight your fuzzies? Weigh them and starting feeding him progressively larger fuzzies then a small hopper. Sometimes they will refuse the next size up if they are not warmed up to it lol
Celeste hm. Weird then on why it regurgitated it. Maybe try again to feed it later and if it happens a second time I'd take it to the vet. Just on the safe side make sure nothings wrong internally
Hopefully is is just a one off thing. Sometimes I wonder if my snake could eat larger prey, but I am scared he will regurgitate it. He eats fuzzies, but I feel like he is somewhere in between that size and a hopper. So I feed him the smaller one to be safe.
Also- I have literally rescued reptiles for 5 years. I have a friend who owns the leading rescue in my state looking over my data and my vet on stand by in case I have to bring him in. I just do not know anyone enough to show them the info I am showing them as my personal info is attached to it.
Celeste, The other thing is I have at least eight inches of substrate and the mat is under the tank not inside it. I've never had an issue but I understand why some people refuse to use them. I had a friend who had that problem with theirs.
Nope. Not too big. They have been eating hoppers the entire time I have had him- I double and triple checked the temps today- perfect. I am going to put a govvee that will track overnight and see what happens. But if it is a temp thing I can just move him to another room where it stays warmer.
Oof, I have a herpstat. I currently use a halogen for basking and a DHP for ambient. I used to use the heat mat mostly at night, but now I don't think I will get one, ever.
If the thermostat and heat mat malfunction- you run the risk of the mat burning your snake. There is risks with everything- I personally prefer a CHE or DHP myself. I bred ball pythons- and only used belly heat on my racks. I checked thermostats like a mad man and dished out several grand on them.
Celeste, could be many different things. They shouldn't regurgitate their food. It's not healthy for them and only a few reasons they would, something startled the snake. Temperature can be an issue but wouldnt be the reason for regurgitating the food if it already thought it was fine enough to eat it and started to. Most snakes if it's too cold will refuse to eat it at all.
It could be maybe it got stuck? Was it a bit too big for him/her?
Aw :( Hope you feel better<3 Not so good either, my trainer got mad at me for galloping my horse on soft ground :/ Shes not lame or anything either so things arenÂ’t good between us rn. I was with my friend too and shes mad at her too
They had a thermostat. If you want to see the pics you may. I will never use a heat mat ever after this. The snake underwent treatment and ultimately passed away. Not worth it to me.
I have a lot of experience with various snakes- I rescued for awhile. But I am almost always able to pin point why- but this, I better call a detective at this point because I am clueless.
