My father in law was an officer in Japan in WWII. He had pics that were awful. Pics that if the government knew he had them would have probably shit a brick. They all burned up in his house though.

My brother join the military back in 2016 or 17. His experience was alright but he didn't like that he had to do everything they told him to. Our mom told him if you don't such and such will happen. He's 25 now.
Shame. A lot of people start their lives off in the military over here, it does give you a good boost especially as someone younger. Decent wage + housing, and you can learn your trade along side doing courses they they WILL pay for. Also they have doctors that work on camp so you can go see them whenever. If I were to join as a officer with clarke as my trade after uni, I could also apply to become an elite sportsman and get a bunch of time off to compete/play ponies with an admin order.
My boyfriend's dad was in the Navy, and my grandfather and uncle were in the army. All of them were pretty well off. My uncle sadly passed during covid shutdown :(

I think everybody has different experiences in the military. My dad refuses to talk about it and gets super pissed off whenever people bring it up. My grandpa mentions it occasionally but it's kinda something he did and then moved on with his life. My brother in law made it his entire lifestyle and my nephews all joined because of it.

The military has furthered my career and helped me every step of the way financially. As far as mental health goes, maybe sub-par but they still direct you where you need to go.
Also getting help is subject to yourself - YOU have to try. There are hundreds of millions of dollars FOR veterans. There's a thousand programs for us. You just have to actually try lol. Sitting on your ass and expecting help doesn't work.
