(Warning- This is going to be long lol) http://funkyimg.com/i/2Cms2.jpg
Some people have requested that I share my progress with y Draft gelding that I recently got out of the slaughter pen.He is no older than 8 years old, checked his teeth lol. We're guessing he was once owned by some Amish, & the Amish we know says he is most likely a registered horse as his tail is docked. The first day I got him home we just let him get used to the area & relax. The second day I got out and messed with him, seeing if he knows the basics & he seems to be a decent boy, he knows some ground work & he line drives, so he could pull a wagon. His back leg is swollen, there is a cut on it, not that big but it is already scabbing over, so I don't know if that would have to do with it. If it doesn't seems any better within a few days he is paying a visit to the vet. He doesn't favor it, he puts all his weight on it & stomps it himself, it doesn't seem to bother him at all. We put a saddle on him, the first time he wasn't sure what to think about someone on his back, I'm figuring he doesn't mind the saddle since hes most likely had a harness on, but the reins confuse him entirely. I saddled him up again today, (2-13-18) and he didn't seem to want to leave the barn lol. I swatted his butt with the reins & he threw some bucks, now there is no bloody way I would ever want to get thrown off of this dude. I just turned him around a few times & eventually I got to the rode. Then he wouldn't go over the railroad tracks lmao, so tomorrow that is my new quest, to get him over the tracks lol. I'll try to maybe get some pictures, but I basically ride & work alone so it's sorta hard to do so. Edited at February 13, 2018 08:44 PM by The Southern Shadows

lol thank you! He also doesn't really seem to like water very much, it was almost impossible to get him over a little creek in the saddle, if I spank him with the reins or nudge him with my boots (I don't wear spurs) he will buck, I'm hoping to get that out of him lol. I got off after riding and leaded him across, he jumped it & he jumps pretty high for such a big horse lol!

Yep, saddled him up today & worked with him. He walks right over the railroad tracks now, no problem lol! Took him a step further & went through town, he was gawking at alot of things, he spooked once but it was no biggie, someones dog came running after him, tried to bite his legs, thank god he didn't kick it, he would've killed it, it was loose so it wouldn't have been my horses fault. The water thing, lol we got over a creek but goodness he can jump for such a large horse!

He is taking a break now lol, he has a girth gall, basically my tack really doesn't fit him & most likely pinched/irritated his skin causing a lump where his girth would be. I'm now just brushing on him, & getting him used to spray bottles, did I mention he is afraid of carrots? Lol he has NO idea what they are & even snorted at one when I offered it to him! I replaced them with treats for now lol. He is a bit iffy with picking up his feet, but he hasn't offered to kick, I am also buying a buggy & harness for him. My neighbor loves him & he wants to come down and see me do stupid stuff, probably wanting to catch a fall lol! Lets hope he does pull that buggy lol, but right now he just needs to relax, the buggy can wait lol. I might just hop on him bareback & go on a stroll :)

Yep, built him an extra mini pasture for himself right now. Our small herd so far doesn't seem to like him all too much haha. I don't want to rush things with them as he might turn out to be more aggressive & our horses at my house are all under 14hh other than him, & a foal, who even tries to boss him around lol! My paint mare just gives him the stank eye & wants him no where near the baby, my other gelding wants to act like a stud, & my gaited mare is taking absolutely no BS lmao, she is always the trouble maker. She tries to herd the other horses away from him, runs right up to the fence & bites the air. She acts cool but when he comes up to the fence they all retreat lol. So today he got to get some fresh air & kick up his heels, it got up in the 70s today, buut its going to rain ALL week apparently. (Why) Its muddy enough here, I can't wait til them nice warm days when the pastures are all grassy instead of mud lol! Edited at February 20, 2018 06:14 AM by The Southern Shadows
