I recommend saving 300k for the 100 stall, and then put a bunch of geldings in there. Create a show army

As a smaller stable, I would recommend saving for a 100 stall barn first (or 50 stall) if you're interested in becoming a showing stable.

I've seen Premium upgrades go for 130k-650k in the forums depending on the amount of months.
