@Dawns, she had my permission to do training sessions with him and I would pay her for them. Just an all around unfortunate situation.

sorry hummer im still mad about how your trainer treated you

I mean, being 'responsible' for the horse is one thing, but as a trainer you assume risks and you know that you're training. Hell, I got on a horse today that launched off the ground whenever I put my right leg on, and I didn't blame the owner, I told her I'd help her with it, because my job is to help the owner not to blame them wtf

I felt really bad and it was a freak accident, but since I couldn't talk to her, I couldn't really apologize.

Yeah, that's super unprofessional. She was probably embarrassed that she fell, or was doing something to make him spook and it was her fault

And yeah that is the risk you take when doing anything with horses, injuries.
Even the most bombproof horses can have a day. Ben acted up with me in the warm up ring, bouncing around. He did the same in our final lesson before that show too. No pain, nothing wrong, just did not want to go faster than a slow walk.

Well clearly she done soemthing it wasn't your fault and she wasn't a good enough friend to get over the fact of it

Souls - it's always the 'owner' that is responsible. Be it horse, dog, cat, cow, whatever.

@Dawns, I don't know. I wasn't even present at the barn when it happened. Unfortunately, she seemed to blame me though. She was a really good friend and then poof, everything changed.

Depends on the snake Hummer. I am used to ball pythons. But maybe I can find a chart for you for Hognoses 😃

At my barn everyone who even leads a horse has to sign a waiver. Even employees. My trainer has had that happen one too many times. If she catches anybody without a waiver in the pasture even, you are gone.

When I briefly owned a horse, he was working with my trainer and he spooked she fell under him. He accidentally kicked her and gave her a traumatic brain injury. I had to move barns because the trainer stopped speaking to me completely and would leave when I was at the barn.

How to Best Discover Freshmans Potential?? September 14, 2020 05:26 AM

Hi all!
I've recently had the good fortune of breeding a potential LB stallion. This year is his freshman year, but I've noticed I don't really know how to attract stables with good mares who might like to breed to him.

Now, his stats are pretty decent:
4- 222221
5- 2 all
8- 333332
9- 3 all
11- 343333
12- 344443

I don't have enough good matching mares to breed him to my own mares, so I need to go public stud. The vast majority of his matches this year have been... well, not particularly well-matched, and as a result most of his foals have been PPP. Of course he could just be a poor producer, but how will I know if he rarely gets good matches?

I suppose my question is this: how do you attract attention for your new freshman stud when you're not a particularly established stable?

Honestly good luck. Even as an established stable I have a hard time drawing people to my horses to help testing.
.
I do think something that would help you in the future is paying attention to the leveling on wk7/8/9. Wk7 leveling unless SD is new/rare so that could bring attention but leveling up all wk8 is also a good sign.
.
some of it could be breed too. Breeds like KNN I've had decent luck finding people to help test because of training and genetics since they're aren't many LpLp studs in the top 15 or so.
.
ive practically completely given up on trying to get testing for my AA boys since there's a lot of currently goof AA and TB studs out there. I just breed to my mares and use public mares for the rest and if they land well enough I keep them and hope for better luck the next season and it usually works out alright.
.
FR the PPP right away, hope that someone uses him and gets a PEP and it should help him jump a little bit 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks for replying!

I do track all training weeks, but this particular boy didn't go up in wk 7. I've only ever had the one horse go all up in wk8 (his grandmother) but from what I gather that's pretty rare overall. That's a breeding goal for me for sure.

I only own one of his foals (EEE) so fr'ing the others isn't an option. He's doing okay-ish on the ablb (top 20 freshies) but I think he could have done better.

Do you think creating forum posts helps? I get the impression the stud forum isn't used a lot...

Not training.. leveling. Eventing dressage cross country and jumping. So if it's like 1211 on wk7 and 2222 on wk8 that's hot shit. Start tracking that too on top of training
.
FR is totally an option, there's tons of broods out there that can be used and the brood market is so crap you can get really good mares for really cheap. I'm just trying to help you out with his placement on the breed LB.
.
Honestly I don't bother with the freshman boards unless they're in the top 3, keep checking the breed lb
.
the stud forums are used but you won't be able to force people to get someone they don't want to get so it's really just hoping. I'd say that the sales chat is more likely to gain the attention than the forums

Ooh, gotcha. That's a kind of tracking I hadn't seen mentioned before. I'll start watching, and see if I can find a guide on it. I think he did level on wk8 but there's no point mentioning that without being sure.
I'll check out broods again. I was under the impression most were poor quality, but maybe I haven't searched enough.
Again, thanks. This is helpful <3
