I use my BM to show my horses but I would like to start showing in feds. So, my question is how do you pick what horses to enter into feds without entering all 100+ show geldings that I currently have
~
I tried this month by entering my W-rated geldings and seeing what happened. Only three of them collected points this month and only brought in a few points. I have tried looking at every horse I own and trying to decide if they are good or not, but I keep getting overwhelmed. And of course, of the 10 or so horses I did enter, about half of them levelled up today so now they won't be doing any shows
~
So when picking what horses to enter, how are you picking?

Sorry for the late response. I totally forgot to answer here.
As you noticed, the training of a W rated horse can be too fast for a 4-5 week long month. This is why I would prefer good P or E horses as HEWG prospects.
When i did federations, I always signed up all my show stock, as the micro management is a really hard and time consuming part.
You will have to make sure to not change riders, to know how fast the horse will level up and in which week of his training level it is at rollover. Then you can decide which horse "might" pull through the whole month at the same level without levelling up a day before the monthly finals.
If you have a SD trained gelding who is leveling up after every 6 weeks... you could enter him... if he had up to 2 weeks of training at rollover - and then hope that the month has just 4 and not 5 training sessions before the finals run.
Or you have a SD trained W gelding that will level up every 4-5 weeks: this one I would only enter if his training sessions match with the number of weeks of the next month. Otherwise you can bet that he would level up too fast to make it to the finals.

Thank you! I only entered WC geldings because I felt like that would be a smaller manageable number, and it was easier to pick them out when entering. I definitely noticed that they all level up to fast. I will keep your tips in mind for this year!
