I've....somewhat updated my tank? XD
I still have all seven of my fish in the same 10 Gal. tank. At this point I am seriously planning on getting a larger one probably specifically for my plecos because they are continually growing. And then maybe I'll get an even larger tank for a community tank.
But right now, I have bought a new filter! The tank is much cleaner and my fish are a lot more active than they have been! I've taken out the pineapple to make some room and bought a Java Fern and an El Nino Fern to spruce it up and add more color. It looks a hundred times better!
Oh! And I figured out that my mystery catfish is actually a Cory!

My aquarium is recovering from nitrate doom.
I overfertilized the plants.
And so, for the last 8 months there has been an algae bloom, and it looks like crap.
The pleco refused to eat the algae and died.
And so then, I got 3 chinese algae eaters, and they died.
Meanwhile, my angelfish are still going strong. They are 3 years old.
And, on a whim, I bought some buenos ares tetras. But they eat plants.
And I have a planted tank. Doh!
SO
Finally I got some plants they wont eat, mainly anubias, java fern, and they never touched my crypt undulata.
The nitrates are nearly under control, or, at least, the algae stopped growing.
I'm doing a chem test right now. If its reasonable, I will get some more algae eaters.
And probably some more of those tetras. Yeah, I hate they eat plants, but they are like shiney pirrahnas darting around.

Oh goodness, I'm sorry that happened! It's good you've got it figured out though. If you don't want any algae I recommend AlgaeFix by API. And then if you still get the algae eaters you can feed them algae wafers. That's what I do.
And I can share a similar experience with ammonia. I lost a goldfish to it (I overfed my fish).

I tried the algaefix, and it didnt dent it.
It just needed lots of water changes. And time for that fertillizer to go away.
So it seems to be around 30 on nitrates. Which isnt horrible, but not great either.
I just put the java fern in today. I know it is a water column feeder, so it might help get things in balance.
And I will go see what fish are in stock at PetSmart. ;)
Its time for some new ones.

You'll have to post some updated pictures when you get it back in order Eve. I don't think I've seen a picture of it since you got it.

Yeah. That's weird though. The algaefix helped my tank, but my tank is also pretty small.
I was at a neat little fish store the other day and they had huge plecos. They had Black Knives and Rope Fish. I wanted them sooo bad! The one I really wanted was an Albino Channel Catfish for like 10 bucks. It was tempting. This is why I need a new tank! XD

If I can get the algae under control, I'll post some pics. Right now it just looks like an overgrown tank with too much algae.

Lucky! Bigger tanks are very fun. But more work also.

Why have I not seen this till now? :D
I used to have two tanks with betas, plecos, and snails. I strongly suggest snails if you want a quick algae/tank cleaner. They last awhile and require no food other than the algae and bacteria in your tank. I have several over the course of a few years and they worked beautifully. :)

I have a nerite snail in my 8 gallon at work, and it's hilarious because I keep thinking it dies due to the tank slowly being consumed by algae for a couple of months, then one day I come in and the glass is clean XD I also have a snail at home that I move between the 10 and 5 gallon. Overall I have the 8 gallon at work, and then a divided 10g with 4 bettas, a divided 5g with 2 bettas, a 2.5g hospital tank that is currently housing a runt from my current spawn, and said betta spawn is nearing 13 weeks old and inhabiting my final 10g. I also have a 30g that is currently set up with a heat mat, rheostat, and thermostat for the jarred bettas, but will become Crowly's home in a month or so.
Crowly is the baby Broad Banded water snake that I am (im)patiently waiting to be born :D
