Get an algae eater of some sort (snails are great if they are legal where you live). Otherwise, try to keep the tank away from natural sunlight and scrub the algae off every now and again.

Thought I should make an updated post my aquariums have been through alot since I last posted lol
I still have a 10 gallon and what I said was 26 gallon, but it's a 36.
My 10 gallon is now a platy breeding tank. It also has a pleco, an assassin snail, a shrimp, and 2 pepper cory cats.
My 36 is a tropical aquarium, as I call it, it is very natural with sand, 4 different live plants, and a small and large piece of drift wood. It has 2 angel fish, a long finned red mirror tetra, a long finned pink skirt tetra, 2 bleeding heart tetras, a long finned albino danio, a chinese algae eater, 3 bronze cory cats, a clown pleco, A tiny horned norite snail, and a big golden mystery snail.
All are small right now.

So, I at first started with an overstocked 1 gal. Three comet goldies (both males), two Bristlenose (male and female). I upgraded to a 10 gal. from my grandparents, and recieved his fish as well: a large common pleco, pepper corydora, and a Yoyo loach. After about 6 months, the large Common pleco, and cory passed away (one goldy as well. However, that was before ever recieveing the 10). After researching for hours, and realizing, I decided it was time to rehome, and revamp my 10 gal.

My plan is to rehome all fish, and buy up some dark flourite, black or white sand (both?), Seiryu Stone, Spiderwood, and some mosses, swords, and maybe hairgrass.

This past week, I managed to rehome my two Bristlenoses and Comets....however the Bristlenoses left me with more fish than I had before. A month before rehoming, I noticed my male was chilling in my squid decor. He pretty much didn't come out the whole month until I disturbed him to get rid of him. Little did I know, he was a father and the female a proud mama. I now have 6-7 (possibly 8) Bristlenose fry, and have no idea what to do! XD

All I can say, at least they're cute. They all still have their little egg sacks on their bellies yet and they're so, so tiny! I'm kind of liking this grandma gig! XD

Yeah, I also overstocked my 4 gallon
It was partly my fault and partly the seller's fault
( When I first started, I went through so many guppies, and I couldn't figure out why they were dying XD I am a murder at 17. Later I figured out why and added aquarium salt. )
I always bought male guppies, and I always bought them in threes. I couldn't keep them for more than a week before they died, but one of the times I bought them, they survived for 3 months.
So, I used to have a 4-gallon tank with 3 male guppies. Lemmie tell ya, they were so pretty! I also had one pleco. I never had any problem with them fighting. The pleco soon died and that was completely my fault. After the hardy 3 that I kept survived for 3 months, they turned black and couldn't swim upright. Was it something I did? I am still researching it months after it happened. When the males were healthy, I went and bought another 4 gallons and got 2 females in the hopes of breeding. One was a green cobra and the other, a red one. They survived and are still alive right now. I've been trying so hard to breed them, and nothing was working, then I left for vacation and came back and the green one's tummy was swelled XD. Now, I know what you guys are going to say, " But the tank isn't big enough" I know that, but I only figured that out when I bought the second one. So! my plans are to save my money for a 20-gallon tank and move the guppies into that one. I'll use one of the 4 gallons for shrimp and maybe something else, and the other one for a betta if big enough. Sorry it was long <3

I've got a plan!

My 10 gal. is completely empty. No more fish, not even water in it. I'm gonna end up saving up (and possibly for a nice sturdy table/stand for it) for a whole new revamp.

Substrate: Black Flourite and seperate areas for black and white sands.

Hardscape: Seiryu Stone and Spiderwood, Ghostwood, or even Manzanita (or Bogwood? I can't decide XD)

Plants: Definitely would like some Amazon and possibly some sort of Anubias. Maybe Dwarf Hairgrass, however I know that one is really tough stuff to mess with. Any suggestions?

Fish: I want a school of 10 CPD's (Celestial Pearl Danios or Galaxy Rasboras).

And then, further down the line, I'm planning on saving for a 75-100 gal. and getting myself an Oscar! ^^

Daughter has my black seal 10 gal. I have a 20 gal currently with her 5" oscar in it. Picked up a free 38 gal off a local neighborhood app. Have to build a stand for it yet. Also have a 75 gal tank that used to house austrailian rainbow fish (till daughter dumped a huge can of flake food in when she was very young, then housed a couple guinea pigs, then some ducks till they could go outside, then a rat for a couple of years....now sits empty till I can reseal the whole tank...huge undertaking! most likely will sell the whole thing to daughter for her oscar). Used to have a 5500 gal pond with 3 koi and 3 commet goldfish till my daughter keep wanting to go swimming when she was a todler, had to tear it out for safety reasons and donated the koi to our local zoo and housed the commets in a mini 100 gal pond in the house till they passed away. I used to have around 15 tanks of various sizes and raised several types of fish for sale to local petstores including kribnesis, angel fish, and many livebears a a couple types of mouth brooders.

How is the Oscar? Are they relatively easy keepers? Personable?

Oscars are ok, but they grow huge and fast. She got him about 9 months ago and was about 1" long, he is now about 4" long. I only feed him every other day. We do NOT feed any live food at all to him, we feed ciclid pellets and shrimp pellets (also for the giant chinese algea eater (have never seen one that big: nearly 6" long and about 3/4" in diamter). Full grown oscar will require at minimum a 50 gal tank, 75 to 100 gal is suggested. Live plants do not survive with one of these oscars in the tank either. I have a 3.5 gallon betta tank. My poor guy just passed away last week 😢. It's a planted tank. I can't wait to get a new guy for it.
