I was working on an alien race, and I'm not a huge fan of the "human but with green screen" trope. So, this had me in a long google dive to try and put together an alien species with plausible biology. This resulted in various searches about: parthenogenesis/asexual reproduction, hermaphrodite animal species (fun fact: there's a fish that's a functional hermaphrodite), impact of blood ph on various organ systems, and a few otherthings. For another story where genetic engineering was heavily advanced, I had to do digging on when the earliest cloning was done. Then I looked at what the first completely sequenced genome was, when the human genome was fully sequenced, and verious genetic terminology for geneticalyl modified organisms with different numbers of genetics in them. |
