I love this! My dad grew up with VW bugs, had a VW van when he was dating my mom, and up until a few years ago still had his 1971(?) Karmann Ghia convertible. Sadly it got burned too badly to repair when our shop burned down, but it was a super cool car

I love the fact that this thread has carried on for so long just for the appreciation of the Car of the People.

Did you know that Volkswagen (properly pronounced FOLKS-vahgen) means "car of the people" in German and the initials are pronounced "Fow-Vay"? I once had a housemate who came home late from the local watering hole and failed to park his bug close enough to the curb. Thankfully it was the front end that was too far away, so two of us girls just picked up the front wheels and scootched it over about 6 inches. One of my favorite comedy routines is Wendy Bagwell's "Ralph Bennett's Volkswagen" from my childhood (60s-70s). You might find it on the internet, I'm not sure. We used to score how many Beetles we saw when we were going on trips. Red and green ones scored the most. We called them "pregnant rollerskates". Edited to do the paragraph thing, LOL.
