A year ago, I had a betta and he lived a week because my dumb self wasn't aware he needed a heater .-. and as someone in chat put it... "ice cube fish" .... don't come for me, I cried for 2 weeks straight for being a horrible mom. Since then, I have done my best to educate myself on what a betta actually needs to survive and have done my best to acquire those things so new baby can live comfortably and for longer than a week hopefully *crosses fingers* (this isn't funny, I promise, but its how I cope when I'm nervous) On Saturday, I went out before this horrible artic snow storm hit and bought myself a betta fish. I actually ended up buying my new guy at a perfect time, because he literally had just been delievered to the pet store an hour or so before I got there, and actually was swimming in the tiny container they gave him and he had SO much color. They were trying to hide him though, because I had to dig to the back of the shelf to find him. I almost bought a different one and noticed his shiny self at the last second. (sorry to the other fish, if bettas were friendly, I would have bought you as well) Sooo, without further ado, here is my new guy (Bahari) and his pretty cool set up with his dragon friend and my three moss balls named Huey, Dewey, and Louie! He's been doing really well and has finally started getting used to his tank and swimming more actively. I think it was quite a shock for him to be shipped to a store and then immediately get purchased and put in a tank in other place. I also learned very quickly that bettas are assholes and like to fight their reflections... so that was a time and a learning experience, but we fixed the issue lol. I am hoping to buy real plants at some point, but for now, he just has silk plants and the three moss balls. His face was a dark grey almost black when I bought him, but it's already starting to turn blue like the rest of him, so I'm hoping over time that he's a fully blue fishy.

Bahari Update! So I am proud to say he has lived for more than a week! Sad I have to say that, but here I am xD low expectations here. He has been eating well, I just got more plants that I plan to add when I clean his tank tomorrow, and becoming so interactive with me. In less good news, we are currently a very bloated fish because he gets fed 4 pellets morning and night. Well... last night, I had a really late meeting and I wanted to make sure he was fed close to the same time he usually is and get his light turned off... well my brother "couldn't get four pellets" so he gave him a pinch with his fat man fingers. I came home and thought the boy was dead because he sunk to the bottom of the tank. He is doing much better now and swimming much more frequently. I did a little research and he is going to fast until he can lose his pouch of fat. I'll post a picture soon of his updated tank with the new plants <3

Hey how is bahari how? Is he still alive? If he is I suggest changing the gravel in there to a more natural and lighter colour as it would be easier to focus more on the fish instead of the gravel and it would make him stand out more. Also you should add some live plants in there for him.

Unfortunately he is no longer with us. After he lost the weight from being bloated, it seemed like his overall health deteriorated so fast. I did everything I could to try to help him out, but it wasn't enough. I bought him from PetSmart though and I think he may have had a sickness prior to me buying him. I really wanted to redo his tank and add real plants and make it more betta friendly! It was a work in progress, but he died before I could get the real plants. I had just bought him some more hiding places and even a little leaf hammock, but he never got to see them. Thank you for your interest! I'm hopefully going to get another betta one day, but I'm going to continue to do my research and see if there are more reputable fish stores to buy from other than PetCo or PetSmart that may have healthier fish.
