The Cost of Groceries... December 31, 2022 02:53 PM

So I've recently come to realize I spend over $100/week on groceries, just for one person.

I don't feel like I even buy that much— I get ingredients to make 1-2 meals that last me the week (a salad and 2 protein-based meals, usually on rice), bread, soy milk (close in price to conventional milk here), OJ, and 1-2 desserts/snacks (usually sorbet/popsicles, and something chocolatey), plus I only buy some chicken and beef about once a month.

Is this just normal now? Everyone I talk to says it's way too much cost-wise, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Even when I go to more budget-friendly stores, sure it's cheaper compared to where I usually shop, but still over $100/week.

I feel lost so if anyone has some advice that would be very much appreciated. For reference, I live in Ontario, Canada so prices are in CAD.

I spend about 400 a month on groceries for 2 people. Add another 200 for the pets. But then again I buy in bulk.

one block of decent cheese costs like 22USD where I live... and soon we'll have a shortage of eggs too.
