Hello, and welcome to the showing grounds! This is a fun idea that I’ve had brewing for a little while... Please be patient with me, as this is my first time hosting a contest! This is a trial run. If this seems popular and works out, I might consider hosting another “show” very similar to this in the future. I think it would be fun to do a realistic division at some point. Anyways, let’s fill you in on what this is all about! If you have any questions/concerns, shoot me a PM!

What is an adopt halter show?

• Just like a real halter show, you show off your pretty horse and get judged. But, instead of a real horse, you’re showing your adoptable characters.

• This is just a fun way to check out other people’s pretty characters and to win some fun prizes.

• This first show is specifically the Fantasy Division. Each adopt entered should have something about them that makes them unmistakably fantasy. This could be a set of wings, horns, an unnatural coat color or pattern (ex. tiger stripes), magical accessories, etc. Adopts that have all realistic traits and could pass for a real horse but are a member of a made up breed do not count. If you are unsure if your adopt is able to participate, PM me. All art styles are welcome!

• Each character will be judged and each ring will have its own 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. There will also be a grand and reserve champion selected out of all the 1st and 2nd places. Judging will be based on my opinion, but I came up with a point system to make it more fair. Here’s what I’ll be judging on:

  • Name: _/3 pts

    • Is the character’s name interesting? Does it relate at all to their art?

  • Shading: _/5 pts

    • Are there any shadows or highlights on the art?

  • Patterning: _/8 pts

    • Does the coat have a pattern? Does the pattern make the coat feel overly busy, balanced, or give the character a unique appearance?

  • Base Color: _/5 pts

    • Does the base coat color compliment the character's patterns/other markings or provide contrast?

  • Eye Candy: _/10 pts

    • Does the character have an overall nice look to them? Do the colors tie together? Does the character have a visual appeal?

  • Emotion: _/4 pts

    • Can anything about the character’s personality be guessed from the art?

  • Fantasy: _/2 pts

    • Does this character feel whimsical and seem like they could be from a fantasy world?

  • Behavior: _/3 pts

    • Random factor. Did the adopt misbehave in front of the judge?

Rules

• All submitted adopts must have credits on their images.

• You can enter one horse per ring.

• Rings are differentiated by genders, not ages. If you have a horse with foal art that you want to show, fillies show in the mare ring and colts show in the gelding or stallion ring.

• If there are not enough gelding entries, the gelding and stallion classes will be combined.

• All entries must be posted on this forum.

• Please provide a link or insert an image of the adopt you are entering. If you would like, you can submit a watermarked file.

• You do not have to make adopts specifically for this show or alter their art in any way. You can enter them exactly as they are!

• You can enter designs that I have made. They will not be treated any differently than other entries.

• Be kind and respectful of both the judge and other showers. This is meant to be fun.

• (For potential future shows) Adopts that have previously won first or second in their class or were chosen as reserve or grand champion are ineligible from participating in the next show. They are able to participate again after one show which they were not entered in has passed.

• (For potential future shows) Adopts that did not win first or second, or were not chosen as grand or reserve champion are eligible to participate in the next show.

If we don't get enough entries by then, this comp will be cancelled, and I might consider rehosting later.

• A Ring Needs a Minimum of 4 Entries to Run.

• If there aren't enough entries, all three rings will be combined.

• The Grand Champion and Reserve Champion awards will only be distributed if two or more rings run.

Hi! To clarify, this is a character contest, not an art contest? So you can post adopt art made by other artists as long as the character is yours? (And of course credit given to the original artist)

Other Info (Breed, Age, Unique Characteristics, Name Meaning (optional), etc.): Rue is based off of a Rosy Maple Moth (go look them up right now they are stunning!!) she's a Sable Island Horse and is 6 years old.

Lore (Optional, please stay under 250 words): Rue was born in a forest in Nova Scotia, all the other horses in her herd teased her as she looked quite a lot different than her relatives. But then she met her moth friend, Bea! They've stuck together ever sense, keeping eachother company and never questioning others differences.
