Gabby, I also keep the majority of my show geldings. When they have lower ratings or aren't showing well I just put them up for sale and keep showing them.

Well the good thing is I only really have my credit card. I put all my money on it. And most vendors take cash, also my credit card is set up to where you can't send money or take out cash. So if I want to buy something I have to plan ahead of time and save for it

Oof lol. I would be willing to drive for expos just to look too, but not in Atlanta xD Atlanta is way too crazy

12:31:06 Ly/Lyra
That's fair. We will drive pretty far for most expos even if we don't buy anything, but since the twins are getting bigger and their new hobby is snatching shit off of tables, we try not to go now unless I have money and space. I have an empty tank right now but no monies lol

I mean there are ones in Atlanta at least once a month but I have to have the money and space to come home with something for it to be worth the drive lol

Im lucky enough where I live we get tons of expos not horribly far. Closest is about 25ish mins away

Yeah, majority of the expos in my area are in Atlanta or Chattanooga which are both an hour away. Sometime there are smaller ones a little closer but not often, and they are so small lol

Yeah which sucks in my case since expos are often hours away XD
Though I might try ordering a Beardie if I cant find one near me.

Understandable Green. But sometimes you have to do what you have to do. You can't always find what you want at the expos and sometimes they are a lot cheaper online

I love expos too. There are none near me for quite awhile though unfortunately. One in August but it's out in Havre De Grace which isn't the worst. PA to that part of Maryland is roughly 1hr 1/2

What are the homeschooling rules where you live?
Are you homeschooled?
I have been homeschooled forever. Started 1st grade at 4. Going into 10th this year; I am 14. My older sister teaches me; my mom teaches my lil bro.
We do it at our own pace. Only requirement is to have an evaluator look at our stuff at the end of the year and say whether we pass or no. Ive never failed a year; but who knows? I hope to be graduated by 17; since my birthday is in April, thats silly. I would be 16 to graduate IFF my birthday was July LOL. But I am not complaining about my birthday!!!
Please post!

Homeschooling when done correctly and for the right reasons is a great tool. Not all kids are the same and some greatly benefit from it. However, just among the parents I know personally who've chosen to homeschool, some of these people should never have been granted a high school diploma and are completely unfit to be teaching anyone.

Not quite the same, but I was online schooled. I was a mute for years and got pulled from public school when my teachers didn't want to deal with it anymore. My grades were fine, but someone who doesn't talk isn't easy to teach since I never asked questions.
.
I did a little more with online during college, until I was finally capable of speaking again. I finished college in person. I still don't talk if I'm nervous.
.
That being said, online is NOT meant for everyone, just like homeschool isn't meant for everyone. Some people need a little more structure. While I had the capability to get up and actually DO my work, not everyone does.

I've never done any homeschooling or online schooling, but I think that helped me gain strong social skills and build some really great friendships, though I will say the education system is definitely less than amazing, and I've seen and experienced many a horror story with how hard many students are worked. I think it really depends on the person, and both have their pros and cons!

Only rule for my state is parent must send a Notice of Intent once a year.
No set classes, no teacher involvement, or anything.
As I said, seems crazy it's so "open" with little rules to me personally.

I went to public school until I was homeschooled for four years during my intermediate and high school years. Alhough my parents made strong efforts to support my learning and socialisation through homeschooling groups and weekly tutoring, I found that homeschooling was socially isolating in comparison. When I went back to high school for a better education (I wanted to go back), I found it challenging to reintegrate socially (that may have been because I am slightly autistic though, haha). I found in public school it works better if you're a self-motivated student and actually value the resources you get from a school environment that you just wouldn't be able to get in a homeschooling environment.

Definitely pros and cons to both, and there is no right answer. It works better for some people than others.

Also, you meet some interesting people throughout the homeschooling community. I think they should be reviewing it more, as my parents never had any kind of checkup throughout the whole 4 years I was homeschooled, and I know lots of people who have questionable ways of homeschooling, and their kids are quite far behind. It's honestly sad and such a disservice to those kids.

I used to be homeschooled until this year when i got offered a place in a international high-school. So i homeschooled for about 3 years ish.
We bought a subscription to a site that would give me work and i bought textbooks. Did every subject each day working 8-8. For exams i went to the school down the road and sat in an empty classroom with a supervisor.
Could take breaks whenever i wanted and all that mattered was that i passed and got all the work done. I taught myself as my parents didn't have time

My country doesnt exactly have much popularity of homeschooling in general, i didnt know it even existed when i was going to school, we see such things in US movies on TV mainly, its available in general, but only in certain circumstances, 1st you have to find and register with a school that supports homeschooling and will provide curriculum and teachers that will work with you for the studies and assignments and such and then you have to attend doctors for a full psychological evaluation of why would you need a homeschooling (and no, social anxiety, bullying etc does not fall under it unless youre a danger pretty much yourself) or specific severe health issues, where going to school is too difficult. We have special needs schools for autistic kids and so on and they will always encourage you to keep trying unless its unmanagable completely.
