*sigh*
lately ive been really pissed off by a couple people at my yard.
For context, i ride as a part of a 15 person team. We represent my city at shows and events and things, we ride and train together and generally we all get along. But theres one or two people that really wind me up.
One example is this 16 (ish) year old dude thats been riding for just a year but thinks he knows how to take care of every single horse on the yard, even though he doesnt even have one himself.
A little while back i started riding my gelding in a double jointed snaffle just because its a nice soft bit for him, and all of a sudden *apparently* im abusing him, "messing him up", confusing him and hurting him? By switching from a non-double jointed D-ring snaffle to a double jointed snaffle? Because i want my horse to be as comfortable as is possible?
I know he's only 16 and still needs time to learn and grow up, but please just let me do what i like with my horses without telling me im abusing them.
Example number 2 of annoyance is a member of the team that is just constantly taking my horses out of their boxes without asking me, grooming and even riding them when im not there and without my or my trainers permission. Like who the fuck does that. Ive spoken with my trainer and shes done it before with other peoples horses a lot, so i think she's actually being kicked off the team if she doesnt stop.
Oh yeah, its a small thing but the other day i let my horses out in the outdoor sandy ring where we let them out in to play around a bit while we muck out. Gitana, my mare, got a very small cut on her pastern, presumably from a small rock. I dont know how it happened because she had boots on at the time, but it was only the size of my fingernail and was only bleeding a very very small amount, so i wasnt too worried.
I took my horses in, tied my mare up, washed the cut a bit then put some antibiotic cream on her.
Just as i was getting ready to go i hear a scream as some 30 year old lady comes rushing over, fretting about the cut and telling me everything i had to do, otherwise it would get infected or anything. Keep in mind by this time that *tiny* cut had stopped bleeding and my mare was absolutely fine. It was a long list but some of the things she told me to do were-
use an icepack for at least half an hour
bandage the entire leg for circulation or something, apparently
oh yeah and don't ride for the next 4 days.
and by the way this lady has absolutely 0 experience with medical things and horses, she just comes to watch her daughter ride.
Its just annoying being told what to do constantly with my own horses.
And i really understand they mean well and all, but please unless im doing something obviously very wrong like, i dont know, putting the saddle on backwards, just let me do what i need to do with my horses. Ive been riding for almost 8 years.

i know!
She took out my gelding from his stable, groomed him and tacked him up with tack that wasnt his, got on him and did a full hour of riding him. She's very lucky that he is a big softie and wouldnt hurt her, but if she had gotten injured or something while riding my horse, i dont know what i would have done.

1) Double jointed bits have been proven over and over again to be softer and more comfortable than a solid or single jointed bit.
2) The audacity of that person... Good God, they have absolutely 0 boundaries or respect for other people and their things.
3) I can't imagine how that lady would react if it was an actual emergency. 😅

That makes me very concerned... Would you be liable if she did get hurt on your horse, even though she's not suppose to so much as touch him? And who would be held responsible if he got hurt because of her?

Ooooh... if someone got on my horse and didn't ask anyone first, I would have given them a piece of my mind >,>
Have you told these people to back the fuck off you and your horse? Don't be afraid to message them if you don't feel comfortable telling them face to face. Some people need to be put in their place lmao.
I hope things get better for you!

i know, it worries me too. She would absolutely be held accountable if my horse got hurt when she was handling or riding him. However im just not sure about what would happen if she got hurt on him. Luckily she's moving away soon anyways i think, so it shouldnt be too much of an issue. Still makes my bood boil.

I don't know if having messages between you and her directly stating that she is not to mess with your horse in any way, shape, or form would be enough to cover you or not.

I'm sorry but if I found out someone was working my horse with out my permission I'd be fuming mad. First off if she got hurt on your horse you would be held liabile for her injuries UNLESS you can prove she took him out and worked him without your permission. If your horse got hurt because of her then she would be liable for his injuries if she did not have permission to take him out. Presonally I'd talk to that girls parents and slap them with a lawsuit to show how serious her behavour is, and it's not tollerated in the horse community to take others horses out without owners permission. Also if the yard you're boarding at isn't enforcing rules about that they can be held liable for your horses's injuries as well if he is injured while this girl is messing around with him. You might want to point that out to the yard owner.
