What is an embryo transfer?

An embryo transfer is when you breed a mare to a stud, either through live cover or with a straw, and then you collect that embryo for future use. Once you've collected the embryo, you then implant it into a different mare, commonly called a surrogate mare. This allows for mares to have multiple foals in a year, or if the mare is old, allow for more foals from the mare even when she's of old age.

Who can do embryo transfers?

Embryo transfers are a premium feature only. You cannot use this feature if you're a free stable.

How much do embryo transfers cost?

The embryo collection fee is 30k. There is then an additional fee of 10k when you implant the embryo into a surrogate mare.

How many embryos can you collect?

Each game year you can collect up to 10 embryos from different mares. However, you can collect a max of 2 embryos from one individual mare in a month. You cannot collect embryos from a mare if she was bred normally already. And once you've collected an embryo from a mare, she cannot be bred normally that month. There is a 3 day cooldown between collecting embryos from one mare. So once you've collected the first embryo from the mare, you'll need to wait another 3 days to collect a second. Embryos can be collected from mares who are a minimum of 3 years old and a maximum of 17 years old.

Where do I collect and sell embryos?

To collect an embryo, you go the Vets Office and scroll down to where you can collect and manage embryos. From there you will be taken to the embryo collection page. You can use your own studs or you can use straws you have from outside studs. On this page you can also sell embryos. Embryos can be sold to other players OR they can be put up for sale in the embryo store for the public to purchase.

How do I implant an embryo?

To implant an embryo, you go to the Breeding Center. There will then be an option to implant any embryos you have collected or purchased. You just choose the embryo and the surrogate mare. It's important to note that surrogate mares CANNOT be bred themselves once they've had an embryo implanted. It counts as a normal breeding for them.

Can you use items with an embryo?

Yes, in the Breeding Center when you go to implant an embryo there will be an option to add items if you have them in your inventory. Items that can be used are stained glasses, medallions, svens, and sexed embryos.

When is the foal born?

The foal will be born immediately once the embryo is implanted in the surrogate mare so there's no need to wait!

Does the surrogate mare impact the foal?

No, the surrogate mare has no impact on the foal's ratings, stats, color, etc. The biological parents are the only ones that impact the foal in any way.

Do embryos expire?

No, embryos won't expire so you can hold onto your embryos for as long as you want.
