Yeesh I'm close to 200 breeding mares. Going to need more barns than I originally anticipated 😅

Most of the LB status comes from the horse's strength. Truthfully, FRing the foals isn't going to impact things that greatly. If he has enough good foals on the ground, those will compensate for any junk ones he might produce

I geld for gelding quests, geld and fr any Colts breeded that are under my standards, so to preserva my studs status. I's cheaper to buy yearlings for showing from other stables
Eagle Creek

If I can find a stud up for 0 that's WWE+ then that's way cheaper than buying

I usually shop for yearling colts/ gelds on the 1st/ 2nd. but I don't want to do that as much lol
The Old Gods

that's a bit of a money waste, to be honest

I buy yearlings Colts of they are very cheap, train and try them at show. If they do not reach, let Say ten points when they level up 2, I fr them

Quick question.. for you bigger showing stables like 800+ gelds did you buy most of yours? or breed them? I have like 55 Sd/ Lower rated mares and I was just going to Fr them but should I just use them to create more geldings?? I mean, it is my goal to have double at least what I have now and I don't want to spend a lot of ebs on them at once (at least not right now)

You know I got myself thinking, younger me four years ago would be so excited with how far my stable has come. Its a nice feeling even if it took me three years to understand showing lol

I don't see "Secretariat" in his pedi. All I see that you might men is "Seattle Slew".

Edit: But it could just be me.

I am also not seeing Secretariat...

Some big names i do see:

Tapit, Unbridleds Song and further back Mr. Prospecter, Northern Dancer, and Seattle Slew.

Yeah, idk.

If you go back farther than what it shows in the first pedigree, you'll find Weekend Surprise is a Secretariat baby. It's on his Dam's side I believe

So.. he's also related to American Pharaoh then. Shame he broke his leg, we could have had another Triple Crown winner!

You might want to start slowly retraining him, because racehorses are taught that when you pull they should run faster. Not the most fun thing to happen when you're running at a barrel and pulling back a little, trying to turn it, LOL

Not entirely true. I don't know your experience, but having worked with graded stakes horses I can assure you this has some true to it and some falseness. Racehorses tend to pull against the bit, so they do run faster, but only with a shorter rein. If you go to the track, notice at the end of the race the jockeys sit up and pull - the horse slows. So long as you're sitting up and pulling (using your seat helps too) the OTTB will slow. :)

I wouldn't suggest using a horse who has fractured a hind leg for another heavy duty speed event - barrel racing. Poor dude would probably do much better with some chill flat work/trails if he even recovers enough to be sound let alone ridden again...

I Agree, :)
