I ride bareback like this as well, she is and older mare and never learned leg yielding? I don't know why and the owner don't either. If you have questions let me know :D
I'm not just ridding bare back, I'm using a neck rope but still have a bridle with the reins tied at the top of my mare's neck as an emergency break. The last time I tried riding her in just a neck rope I fell into a water trough lol Edited at December 31, 2021 06:02 PM by Wild Winnie Equine

I use a bit and bridle but thats it, winnie that must of hurt and been cold falling into a trough xD

Free riding takes a year or even more of consistent work since you have absolutely no tack. Your horse must work off your leg and seat nearly perfect to do this well. And you must must must be a good, strong rider to not ruin a horses back.
