I got a new boy for my birthday, in september! He is a 23 y/o grey gelding, grandson of Scotch Bar Time. he has a bit of inbreeding, but *shrug*. He is 16 hands, and is built like a thoroughbred. He is super sweet, and I have a show in 9 days, but he's been lame the last couple of days, from what we think is an abcess. So i might not be able to compete. Which is sad, but prayers for him to get better :)

Ahhh hoping he pops it quick! My horse was dead lame with an abscess a week before a show and popped it just in time for us go. Scotch sounds lovely

That must've been very stressfull! I hope it pops soon!
We are trying to find a new name that suits him (his name right now is Cowboy), because when we think of cowboys we think of someone tough or brave. And hes a big softy.
Any suggestions would be great :)

I would have the vet come dig through his hoof. I have a gelding that gets abscesses and he needs them dug out all the time. And if you just get the vet out and dig through it it will get better quicker.

This may be late, but I'd suggest soaking the hoof in Epsom salts. I've heard that that works wonders. My friend has a horse that always gets abscesses, and she uses that. Here's some info:
