So,a while back an ad for this 3 and a half year old bay mare was posted. The ad said she was already jumping 3 foot. She looked horrible on the pictures, yet I practically begged my barn family to go check her out. And oh boy,was she spooky.
We got to her barn, and it was in a ruck shuck. Horrible. Dirty, messy, uncleaned stalls. Ugh. Anyway,Ellie, was standing in the X-Ties,with the whites of her eyes showing. Her owner was standing next to her with a crop... No... A lunge whip...
She almost kicked me when I went to feel her legs. She would be quite the project. Scars covered her body, and she was already lathered in swear. Ellie also had a chain on her halter. So many thoughts ran through my mind. I nodded to her owner and went to Chad with those who came with me. We decided we could make her a project horse. So we bought her and the journey began.
Ellie was not good at trailering... At all. Took us 2 hours to load her. And another hour to unload her. She got to a it in a paddock for 1 and a half years,to build weight and recuperate. We tended to her cuts and scars, getting her used to standing in the X-ties all at once.
At 7,I got on her first the first time, after 3 years of groundwork. She had the loveliest step. So smooth. I hadn't rode a better horse. Not a single argument. We calmly walked around the arena once both ways. I got off her,and we all praised her. She had come a long way.
Ellie is now 10,and has a heart made of pure solid gold. She lets children sit on her and my daughter takes lessons on her. I have started her over small crosspoles. I hope to have her doing small verticals maybe this summer. Maybe sooner, maybe later.
She has so much personality. I love the way she looks like a Marwari with her ears when she is on high alert. Her ears... Oh my,I have never seen a horse with such mobile ears! Constantly moving them, but I can't blame her, with a harsh past like hers.
I will keep you all updated. Pictures will come soon :)

Before a workout http://funkyimg.com/i/2zWkf.jpeg After a workout http://funkyimg.com/i/2zWkh.jpeg Not a huge difference, but it's big thing, seeing as her legs were literally rhino legs yesterday. Moving her around lowered the swelling, but at turn in time, her fetlocks swelled back up again from standing around.
