You guys, Eli has been amazing. He is SO easy to work with, and tries at everything! So I've been frustrated and confused with the fact that I had gotten Eli to stand up once for halter but otherwise, he seemed to not understand. So since, I've been training him for halter, thinking it was a fluke. No, that was not the case, yall. I swear he has had to be LAUGHING at me for the past few months. Dumb me, forgetting the fact that since I was sure he had professional halter training - they use a whip. This whole time, I'd been just using a lead rope to ask him to stand up. Yesterday, I pulled out a teeny crop, and I mean like a foot and a half long, you'd never guess what the goof does. Stands up, arches his neck, I tell him to step - he takes two big steps forward into the perfect halter stance and arches his neck at me. I swear to god. This whole time he's probably been like "stupid human, no whip, psh not gonna happen." I'm facepalming so hard at my own stupidity.
Onto updates about riding, he's going so well. If it's any inclination, I have this reoccurring wrist issue, and with a brace, I can ride him. That's how soft he is to work with. Yesterday, he was ALL full of energy and was so forward moving under saddle. He's really understanding how to shove off his hind end and into the bridle to work forward and it's wonderful. Once he is steady, he is going to be a show stopper. I still can't get over how fearless he is too, I mean, gunshots, car door slams, power tools, on the ground and in the saddle - nothing phases him.
His mane and tail are still doing amazing growing and healthiness wise. We had a very sweet bonding moment yesterday. I was brushing out his forelock and he laid his head on my chest. It was very sweet.
You guys are always welcome to ask questions and whatnot if you want! Hope all is well with you guys!

LOL Don't you just love how they know when you don't know how to ask them (or can't make them) and they take full advantage? My Dutch Warmblood was being a lazy boy lunging and I was convinced he didn't know voice commands, then one day I had the lunge whip with me, just holding it and it was like he miraculously learned a whole new vocabulary. As soon as I said the word walk, he was moving along. Trot, and he was floating in a circle. Canter, and he took off LOL He magically absorbed the vocabulary in a matter of seconds.

xD Honestly My little boy is the same.I once thought at one point when we brought him that he was deaf. Was going to get him checked out, entered the stable with a few treats I had left over from another horse.Asked him to shuffle over, forgetting about him being 'deaf' and he moves over straight away eyeing the treats! So now I have to carry a treat or two where ever we go,Cheeky monkey!

Omg, this story is amazing! I can't believe a horse like that ended up almost ending up in a kill pen! He's doing so beautifully, can't wait for more updates!

Hey! Im kinda late to this forum, but Eli is GORGEOUS. Ive had a soft spot for Arabians, so Im probably biased. Still dont believe that a purebred Arabian could have made it into a kill pen. Good luck to you and him! :)

Hey yall, I'm sorry it's been so long! I have had very little time to do anything lately, let alone get on here! So let me give yall an update, shall I?
So I just moved Eli to a barn where there's an indoor arena (because we only have an outdoor, and soooo it's filled with snow for another few months). He'll be boarded there for a couple months and the owners of the barn are good friends of mine. He's been there for a week, and already loves it. He gets to go out during the day, and is a stall baby at night. I went out there almost every day in the last week and have been working him (as well as my mother's gelding who is being boarded there as well). Eli has been awesome. We've now cantered under saddle a handful of times - and even went in a circle while cantering!
His mane and tail are growing beautifully. I clipped his bridlepath and muzzle (PS: I can clip him without anything on, he just stands in his stall and falls asleep while I clip) - and I nearly died when I clipped his muzzle. It's been so fuzzy that I forgot how flipping adorable and tiny his muzzle is! So petite!! I should be body clipping him pretty soon here so he doesn't get so sweaty when we work.
Guys. The most exciting thing happening though, is this. WE SENT IN HIS HAIR FOR DNA TESTING. The Arabian Horse Association finally sent us the papers to send in the hair sample, and we sent it out yesterday. I CANNOT WAIT to see what we get back!
As always, feel free to ask questions about anything. Literally anything. I work/train my mother's western gelding, Eli gets worked/trained hunt, any questions about my mane/tail routine, etc, etc.
