They made it into a Chris Hemsworth movie and the only good thing about the movie was the Chris Hemsworth visuals, until the whole starving and eating a guy thing

Angel, In The Heart of The Sea is a book I read. It's a story of survival after a whaling ship was sunk by an angry whale.

Cleaning the horse stall in 90 something temps probably wasn't the best idea, but hey, it's done

I have had this happen all the time.

*Cold hose like crazy.* At least 3 times/day for 20 minutes. If he is not getting better within 2 weeks or so, I would call a vet, and just ask. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about too much.

Jumped on real quick for an update!

The last two days have been nuts! We got to the barn Saturday AM and Ro was walking much better but still had swelling and heat. I cold-hosed his leg for 20 minutes and turned him out while husband and I worked on his new paddock and stall. We spent hours pulling the rubber mats out of his stall, leveling the ground, replacing the mats and covering with pellet bedding and then shavings. We got his free-feeder secured to the inside of the stall and tossed a few flakes in there in his haynet to get him started. We're doing this for a few days with alfalfa being fed AM/PM until he gets used to to the haynet. HE LOVED HIS NEW SPACE! <3

Fast forward to this AM, headed out there. Turned him out to finish a few things and then took him to the tying post to pick his feet. Low and behold there's a little mushy oozy spot on his heel area. I asked a few boarders to come take a peek and it was an abscess! YAY! LOL. I never thought I'd be happy for an abscess. So I soaked it for 10 minutes in a bucket of water and epsom salt, dried it well and then put him back in his fresh, cleaned stall. Farrier will be out this week to do his feet and have a look-see to see if there's anything he can do to help it out. :D

SO RELIEVED!

Would love any tips you have for abscesses! :) This is new territory for me.

Ichthomol, a diaper (or a feminine hygiene pad), vet wrap, and duct tape. Keep it as clean as you can after soaking. Glad it's just an abcess. Those are pretty easy :)

Phew I am so glad it's nothing to bad. Hope he makes full recovery. I was around 9 or 11 when I saw my gelding was not getting up one night. I rushed into the house to tell my mom. She called the vet and came over. He did some stuff I won't go into detail because we're not allowed to talk about gross stuff. The vet told us we might not have a horse in the morning. The next morning he was just fine. I believe he had gotten Colic. He has been sold and learning to pull.

Sounds like mud fever to me :) Scrub it with iodine soap once a day or as often as you can. It also could be thrush which can be treated with thrush buster stuff you can buy at any tack store .
