Mustang *-* My horse's trainer has had a young mustang from birth and he's wonderful! She's breaking him under saddle right now actully.

^^ Exactly what Mon said. Go off of a horse's personality, mind, and behavior. I wouldn't pick a horse just because of the breed

Moonglade Manor said: first of all this is awesome! If you are experienced enough go for it and get a mustang, i'm sure the challenge would be great. Really you should look through all the breeds and find some nice ones in each, narrow it down to a few and see which you like the most. Don't bring one home that will be a problem, bring one that will be a project! Good luck ;)
Thankyou and yes I have narrowed down the breeds and those are the ones I narrowed down to. Thankyou for the tip! :D

Yes I had that Experience before and she was a half TB and she bucked. I sold her and that was the best thing I could do.

Mustang trainer here!! id suggest getting a mustang if youre ready but id suggest a 2 year old gelding(mares can be a little sassy compared to the young geldings) definitely what to look for is one that isnt picking fights in the pens and one that may come up to you if you kneel infront of the pen that means theyre interested in learning about people. Make sure you have a good place to put it youre gonna need a round pen make sure it doesnt have corners you dont want them to feel trapped when youre working with them. Biggest thing with mustangs: DONT LOOK ONLY FOR COLOR first mustang i looked at was a gorgeous grey and i decided i wanted him but they told me not to get him that same horse mauled a trainer against a fence. vs the little bay mare i got eating popsicles with me in the arena LOL mustangs are very hard to train not only physically but mentally youre gonna have moments when you want to send them back but then youll have a breakthrough and youre gonna love them. Id suggest for your first mustang to get a tip trainer theyll train them to halter trailer lead and pick up all 4 feet itll cost 125 instead of 25 but its still worth it Also if you can find a horse from muddy creek HMA they have the best temperments out of all the HMAs ive seen so far and theyre super easy to work with and theyre very intelligent Edited at May 11, 2020 07:25 PM by Wings Of Glory
