So... I'll try to make this long story short. My husband's co-worker lives on a ranch-ish type property and has this horse there that was gifted to his son despite the fact that they have no idea how to care for a horse. A few months ago he told my husband I could have him if I cared for him, but honestly their property is more like a junk yard and at the time I had nowhere to take a horse to properly care for it or ride - so I passed. Fast forward to now, I've been taking lessons at my current barn for a few months and I thought about having my trainer take him in. So last Saturday, we were over at said co-worker's house for a birthday and I went out to take pictures of the horse. Welp, I felled in love. LOL. His co-worker is telling me to PLEASE take him, husband is telling me DO IT and I'm like omg.... financially it will be a bit of a squeeze but after mulling it over, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
Everything kinda fell together from there. My trainer gave me the OK to bring him over and husband knows a farrier (good friend of his) who will do his horribly overgrown feet and trailer him to my barn. God I hope he loads, LOL.
Now I would not be doing this unless I knew he was broke and fairly gentle. I am (a bit stupidly) going into this blind - they have no idea of his breed or age. I am guessing he is some sort of QH cross between 7-10 years old but I could be wrong. He's been sitting for 2 years so lacks some muscle definition and I know he's been fed horribly. They've had him "grazing" on what little foliage he can find in the dump yard and when I visited him yesterday, his water was bone dry. :( I filled his water up until he stopped drinking and left it full. He was pacing his stall area expecting food - he had to have been starving, so Gio and I went out to his buddy's house and got a bale of alfalfa to hold him over til he's moved. When he saw it he made the most adorable noise and munched away happily. My heart was literally broke. I know these people mean well (they don't have an evil bone in their body) but.... yea. Anyways, I just know I need to get him out of there.
I was able to hop on him bareback with a rope halter and wander around the property. I didn't do anything crazy because of his feet. I could go on and on but I can't wait to get him home and here's a pic!

I saw it in chat - congratulations Abs and I´m sure you will have a lot of fun with this awesome guy! His head looks hughe on this pic, so maybe he is a QH crossed with Standardbred or any other (gaited?) WB ?
And I have to second Ven: What is his name?
