In the stable where I work, there is a stallion who seems to be gay. Or at least in love with a gelding. When the stally sees him, he became all excited, neighing, pawing at the ground, getting ready for breeding. At first we thought it was dominance display, but he only do it with that certain gelding. We even tried him to tease a mare, and he was totally unintrested.

So my question is, do any of you experienced anything similar? Do you have any idea why he behaves so strangely?

No idea on that, but look up the thoroughbred stallion War Emblem. He was notorious for showing no interest in mares and flat out refused to breed many of the ones sent to him.

Well as I recall in the movie the Black Stallion they trained a gelding to play the part of Johar (the white mare) during the courtship scenes, and rumor has it Cass Ole was confused the next breeding season for a few sessions.

War Emblem was another stallion who showed no interest in mares for the most part. The few he did cover were of his choosing alone. When he was returned to the United States and Old Friends, he was gelded because he refused to cover the two test mares to see if he had any equine STDs.

As geldings are not "natural" it could be prossible that studs get confused or attracted by them - maybe due to a certain scents because their hormones get messed up.

There are recorded instances of homosexuals in almost every species. It is possible some Stallions are simply 'confused' by Geldings as they do not behave the way a Stallion may,and they do not release Stud pheromones.

Bats have the highest rate of homosexuality it any non-human species.

I totally agree with Kuewi. Animals are animals. There are males and there are females. They don't get confused. They may show a preference as to the gender of their companion but this does not in any way make them "homosexual".

I should have clarified and stated homosexual behaviour. Which does in fact occur in almost every recorded species. What is pretty cool is in most species it plays a part in their evolutionary development.
There is plenty of scientific study to show although the majority are not strictly homosexual, they do engage in same sex activities and relationships. A wide variety use it as a method of bonding, such as the Bonobo Ape and the Dolphin.

Also, Grace, you contradicted yourself. Kuewi stated they get confused. Which in your statement you said they resolutely do not.

Wow, this turned weird quickly. Taht's possible, that he confuse by the pheromones. Though I think, it's still strange, that he behaves that way with only one gelding.
