Hey there. My family took in my trainer's rescue mare Dixie. Me and my trainer decided that she would retire instead of getting trained for riding for various reasons. The whole time we have had her she had sore/achy joints since she is older. I really want a joint supplement for her, it would really help with her comfort and she could finally keep up with her younger friends. As anyone with horses would know, joint supplements are expensive. I was wondering if anyone knew of some cheaper, natural ways to soothe joints. Persuading my parents to buy an $80 supplement for a retired pasture pet would be quite the struggle! Ideas?

I recommend MSM I use it on my horses all the time. Jake is 27 and I can still jump on him and go for hours without join discomfort.
Or I have not used it but all of the breeders near me say this is the Best You Can Get.

I use MSM for my barrel horse and for my younger horse. It seems to work very well for both of them, it's about $10 per bag and it usually lasts 30 days.

Thanks! I'm most likely going to get DuMor MSM from my local Tractor Supply. Thank you both for your suggestions.

I COMPLETELY second this. but if you're going for MSM DO NOT bother with DuMor MSM. It's expensive compared to same thing on Amazon. Hold on lemme link it. You essentially get 1.5lbs free + free shipping from Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000HHM9WI/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new Bloop. Much cheaper (per pound) than $17.99 for 2lb from TSC. Same thing. Same dosage. Lasts an eternity. Edited at December 10, 2018 11:03 PM by Etoile Noir Elites

I agree with MSM and also glucosamine powder, much cheaper then formulated joint supplement and these are the two main components in joint supps and will last almost 4 times longer at a fraction of the price! :)
