Yes. Sugars can cause problems but short term like you're doing should be ok. Do you think the amount of ulcer stuff would fit in a carrot if you hollowed it out? Then just something to fill the end and give him the treat. Maybe that would work.

It would, but because he generally bites them in half and chews them up messily, I'd be afraid I'd lose more of the medicine than he'd get down.

So we have opened a new can of worms. :D LOL. Went out yesterday and he wouldn't come up to the gate - instantly concerned because as soon as I grab his halter he's ready to go. Coaxed him a bit and with a huge sigh he starts hobbling over - three-legged lame again. >.< Same foot/leg as last abscess, presenting the same symptoms (slight swelling, heat). No visible cuts, scrapes, scabs, etc. on the area, no soft spots in the hoof (yet). So I soaked it in a bucket of epsom salt and water and will be headed out shortly today to soak again and hand graze him to get him moving a bit.

The GOOD news is, is while he was soaking that foot (and not moving for an entire 15-minutes, mind you), I was using a shedding blade to get some muck and gunk off of him (he was absolutely nasty) and NO flinching in his usual sensitive spots! BUT I'm thinking he might be feeling so crummy from the abscess he doesn't even notice lol. Poor guy can't catch a break!

And on top of all this - I'M sick. *cries* Just a chest cold but I feel crappy enough to not want to go out to the barn. He comes first though. <3 Damn animals.

Been awhile since I've updated!

After soaking/wrapping his hoof for a few days, I never saw any drainage but the lameness subsided. Shrugged it off. After a few days he came up on/off lame again but no swelling or heat. Had the farrier out - could not find anything. By last Sun. (1/13) he was sound so we're just keeping an eye on things. We've had some huge storms blow through so I haven't been able to do much but turn him out for a bit while I clean his stall. I haven't noticed any lameness or swelling/heat but may still have it looked at in the next coming weeks. There is another boarder who needs to do a ranch call so I agreed to split it with her.

Anywho, we had a really nice day today so I went out and decided to ride. Glad I lunged him first because he pretty much had a meltdown. We just stuck to walk/light trot since I haven't rode him in 3ish weeks and I wanted to take it easy (and not die at the canter LOL).

Lastly, I finally got a pic in decent lighting to do a before and after! The bottom pic is from 9/2018 and the top pic was today! He's come a really long way. We still need to develop a topline and lots of muscle, but considering we haven't been able to work much this winter, I'm not too bummed with where we're at. :)
