Mari rolled her eyes slightly, though was very much in amusement when he said he hoped the cat wasn't too grumpy. She agreed with a chuckle, and moved to pet the cat happily. He seemed disheartened, though, when he spoke again of the princess. She leaned in to peck his lips before slipping away from the man and going to sit on the couch with a soft sigh. "I'm sure you're helping just fine, babe," she mused. "She's about to loose her only family. It's not surprising she doesn't feel great," she hummed gently. She raised a brow at him and invited him over by patting the cushions. "What did you do to her for her to do that," she mused lightly to him.

Sage hummed softly in resposne to her comment, moving to scoop the cat up and go sit beside her once she headed to the couch, plopping down with a sigh. "I don't know," he mused with a shake of her head. "It certainly doesn't seem like it," he grumbled. At her next comment, he just wrinkled his nose. "She started crying and I hugged her," he noted, a slight frown growing on his features. "We used to understand each other. Be able to comfort each other if need be. Hell, we got through wars together. Now...I don't know. It feels like she's pushing me away more and more as time goes on," he noted softly. He didn't know if that was true, or just him over thinking things like always...but either way, it did hurt. They'd been so close once. She was still so important to him. But if she wanted him to stay away...he'd respect her wishes.

Mari pouted at him, her fingers drifting through his hair absentmindedly. It had grown longer lately, and each day she fought the urge to sit him down and trim a few inches off. She leaned her head against his shoulder, a soft smile curling at the corner of her lips when he mentioned that the woman had started crying. He made it sound as if he had caused it, but Mari knew better and wanted to make sure he understood. "Sage, babe," she murmured, her voice warm and reassuring, "she won’t be used to having that kind of support anymore. She’s never experienced a loss like this before, either." She paused, her fingers still brushing through his hair, as she considered her words carefully. "You two were practically dating while going through wars together. It's not the same now," she explained gently. "You're probably the only one checking up on her right now, and she won’t see you guys as close anymore. It’s probably stressing her out... but Sage," she stopped for a moment, offering him a soft, comforting smile, "just keep checking in. She probably just needs someone to talk to."

Sage sort of just sighed in response to Mari's comments, shaking his head. "I feel like I'm doing something wrong," he admitted. "She needs someone who's there all the time. Who knows what being a ruler is like and can actually help. But she won't get to know anyone," he sighed, leaning into his wife, seeking some sort of comfort from the woman. "I son't know what to talk about," he groaned, shaking his head. "She'd grieving the loss of her parents. I don't...I don't get that," he murmured. "I was terrified of my father. I wanted him dead. I can't relate to her, with something literally everyone else could," he huffed.

The woman gave a soft sigh, wrapping a comforting arm around his shoulder and running her fingers through his hair. "You won't be doing anything wrong - I'm going to assume you're the only one doing anything," she mused gently to him, patting his head a little. He needed he was doing what he could, and at least he was trying. "She's just grieving, Sage. She thinks the world is against her," she hummed softly to him after a moment, then let out a slow breath. She looked at him thoughtfully for a moment, and gave a small sigh. "When I don't know what to do, or think I can't help, I take you to someone who can, like the doctor," she murmured, looking at him curiously. "Maybe she just needs a bit more help than what you can give her," she murmured softly.

Sage let out a soft sigh, just leaning into his wifes touch. "I hope you're right," he murmured softly. He really was terrified he was just annoying her. He didn't want to mess up whatever it was that they had left...if they had anything at all. He didn't know. He shook his head with a shrug when she mentioned bringing her to someone else. "She doesn't have anyone else," he groaned. "She's pushed everyone away." She'd told him she wasn't close to the doctor or anyone. "Her mothers probably the only one who can get through to her, but I don't know if she can even talk or anything now," he admitted. "And Anyas already in the mindset that the woman's dead. I don't think she's visited or anything for...a while."

Mari sighed and rolled her hee, not quite sure what to say. She didn't know how to help someone she didn't really know. "Take her to the old man," babe," she muttered, her voice soft. "You can't make her talk to her mother now. She needs good memories of the woman, not her dying in bed," she muttered.

Sage sort of sighed and nodded. "I know," he murmured. "I just...wish I could relate to her a little bit more." He'd lost people he loved...but that was an entirely different situation. "Maybe the doctor will have something even just to help her sleep or something," he sighed. She may not want any of that...but if he were in her situation, he couldn't help but think he'd want to take any help he could get.

Mari nodded slowly, her brows furrowing as she thought about Anya. She hadn't needed help like this before, and Sage seemed to be the only one truly offering it. He was probably the only one who hadn't been through something like this either. She hummed softly, her hand gently trailing up and down her husband's side, hoping it brought some comfort. "I don't know, babe," she finally sighed. "But I do know the doctor would be losing the queen too. He’s looked after her since she was a child. They were really close back then," she murmured. "He might know just what to say to her." She met his gaze, her brows furrowing with concern. "When I lost my father, the last thing I wanted was for someone to tell me to get better. All I wanted was someone to talk about him with. And I was lucky to have my brothers for that," she explained softly, though she knew it was a bit different—she had been a child, and they hadn't expected it.

Sage leaned into Mari's touch, resting his head on her shoulder with a soft sigh. "Maybe I'll stop in and ask him about it next time I go," he noted with a sort of shrug. He should probably stop by daily....but he didn't know if Anya needed him to not do that. It was hard. He wanted to help, and knew he had to push some. But he didn't want to overstep. Make her dislike him. She certainly wasn't thinking of him as a clsoe friend at the moment. Or so it seemed. He really wasn't sure. He suposed all he could do was hope for the best. He nodded when she mentioned her dad, humming softly. "yeah," he noted with a sort of sigh, brain whirling as he thought. "I'll figure it out. And I'm sure she will too," he mused, moving to get ready for bed.
