Mari nodded reassuringly, offering him a soft hum as he rested his head on her shoulder. "Just take it easy," she murmured gently. "Give her time, don’t try to make her feel better too quickly. She’ll just feel more rushed about it." Her words were calm, knowing that it wouldn't help anything. She didn’t know the girl all that well, but she understood that pushing someone to feel better too soon only added to the burden. She glanced at Sage for a moment, her gaze warm, before leaning in to place a soft kiss on his cheek. She was grateful that he cared so much, that he wanted to help. "But Sage," she said quietly, her voice tender yet firm, "you don’t owe her anything." She paused for a beat, her hand moving to wrap gently around the back of his head, pulling him down with her onto the couch. "Don’t stress yourself out about it, okay?" she added with a small chuckle, her voice playful as she settled beside him. "If you do, I’ll just get just as worried about you."

Sage hummed softly, nodding along to her comments. It made sense...not pushing her too much. He wasn't sure where the line was, since he'd never had time to grieve or get used to things. He always had had to just move on right away. Keep his head in the game. He wasn't sure Anya had much time either...but for now, she did. At Maris comment about not stressing himself out about it though, he offered her a small nod and smile, after relaxing into the couch with her happily. "I know," he hummed softly. "Thanks," he added after a bit. It had been good to talk to her. Figure out some things.

Mari smiled lightly at him, but there was a hint of worry in her eyes that she couldn’t quite shake. She knew that Anya would soon take the throne, and it seemed like the weight of it all was starting to break her. Anya had always been strong... well, it seemed like that at least, but now, it sounded like the pressure was suffocating her. On top of that, her husband was trying so hard to help, yet it was clear that he was pushing himself to the edge, too. Mari felt the weight of it all pressing on her as she drew in a deep breath, burying her nose into his hair. "It’s not your job to try and fix everything," she murmured softly, her voice laced with both concern and exhaustion. She sighed heavily, feeling that familiar frustration bubble up. He had a habit of stepping in, trying to mend everything around him, especially when it came to others. She often found herself wishing he'd be just as relentless in fixing his own problems years ago. But as much as she knew he meant well, it was exhausting, and she wished he would just step back sometimes. After a moment, Mari closed her eyes, letting out a deep, heavy breath. "You wanna go get showered and to bed?" she suggested gently. "You’ll just end up overthinking everything if you stay like this." She was all too familiar with the way his mind worked, constantly turning over every detail, every problem, until it consumed him. She knew it was a cycle, one that would leave him drained and no closer to finding peace. Edited at January 1, 2025 03:31 PM by Belle

Sage hummed softly when Mari spoke up again, and he let out a soft huff of air. "I know," he noted. He did know, but sometimes his brain just hates him a little bit. He nodded when she mentioned he'd though, getting up with a soft grunt. "I may as well knock myself out and get a good night's rest. Start things off better tomorrow," he mused, holding his hands out to help Mari up and then wander off upstairs, keeping a hold of one of her hands lightly.

The woman nodded lightly as he took her hand and led her up the stairs. She did hope he'd leave it all alone for a little while... He could be a bit overbearing when he wanted to help. Hell, when she’d just given birth and gotten shot, he'd managed to work himself into a state where he actually thought she didn’t want to marry him. She still didn’t know how he arrived at that conclusion. She understood it was because he cared and wanted everything to be alright, but sometimes it was a bit much for both of them. She squeezed his hand softly, a small smile playing on her lips as she moved to playfully swing their arms. "I could always knock you out if you wanted to save your sleeping tablets," she giggled, her voice light and teasing.

Sage just grinned over at Mari as she bounced a long next to him, letting her swing his arm back and forth as she moved her own arms around. Though, at her comment, he couldn't help but laugh and shake his head. "Oh, I'm sure they've been times you'd have liked to just knock me out and shut me up," he teased her, lightly bumping her shoulder with his. "I think I'll settle for a pill though," he added with a soft chuckle. He'd refill next time he went to the castle anyhow.

Mari rolled her eyes at him after a moment and flashed him a bit of a smile. "I've wanted to throttle you a little sometimes, but never quite knock you out," she mused to him, though when he bumped her side she gave a soft huff. "Only, you like being throttled so it doesn't mean much," she teased as she flopped down on the bed, reaching across it to grab the packet and handed him the pill. "Take it now, then shower, then straight to bed," she mused lightly to him.

Sage chuckled softly at her comments, just grinning over at her. "Good to know," he snickered softly, before chuckling again as she continued. "I wouldn't say that," he noted, voice laced with amusement. They were clearly joking around...and it was nice to do that. He took the packet when she handed it to him, grunting in agreement and wandering off to the bathroom to wash up quickly and then wander over to crawl into bed, by then pretty well crashing thanks to the medicine.

Mari flashed him an amused chuckle before shaking her head and shooing him off to shower. She got herself changed and ready for bed before flopping back down on the mattress with a small huff of air. It wasn't long until Sage came back in, and she just flashed him a tired grin when he crashed. She soon drifted off to sleep, though. She slept well, though woke up at around four the next morning, wandering downstairs since she couldn't get back to sleep. She didn't want to wake Sage... especially while he was struggling with sleep recently.

Sage had passed out quickly, offering Mari a sort of grunt in response to her smile. It wasn't much, but it was some sort of response. He'd done his best, but giving him the medicine before he showered was...maybe a bit too soon. It was definitely hard to stay awake long enough to finish the shower and get to bed. It was effective...maybe more effective than taking it as he got in the bed to begin with. But all the same, he crashed quickly. He woke up much later than Mari...it was nearly ten o'clock. But he did feel better having gotten a good night's sleep. He wasn't willing to get up quite yet though...so he just lay around for a bit, in the sun.
