"Emma. Most people just call me Em or ma'am." SHe said, smiling. She led him to a larger box stall with a blue roan 3 year old inside. "Name's Cash. He's supposed to make some as well but the boys don't like him simply because of the color." She sighed. "Jeremy likes the bays and Brock...yeah, he just won't do it." She said, skipping over the part where he got drunk the first time she asked him and he nearly punched her

Ben nodded at her name, implanting it in his brain so he wouldn't forget. He admired the colt's color and conformation. "He's a quarter horse? Looks like he's gonna grow up with great legs..." Ben mused, mostly talking to himself.

"His sire was racer for quarter mile and so was his grandsire. His dam is a gaming girl. My personal mare." She explained, opening the stall and stepping in. She put the helter on the colt and handed the leadrope to Ben. "He's yours if you break him in and ride him. You'll bring in the cows with him and compete on him. The whole ranch's staff except for Brock compete every year in the quarter horse expo. You got 4 months to break him in for a halter class." She said, smiling with her arms crossed

Ben listened, proud and surprised that Emma and the ranch's owner would let their newest worker break in a colt. But, he supposed, that was just how things were done here. He took the lead rope and held it kindly but firmly, moving his other hand to pat the colt's neck. "What's his name?" Ben asked, trying to move as smoothly as he could so as not the spook the colt as he examined his legs and withers.

"Cash" she said, smirking. "Good luck" she added, walking away

(Oooooops lol just realized that she said the colt's name before 🙄 I'll pretend Ben forgot too :P) . Ben remembered that she had said that before, and suddenly felt very stupid. He banged his head on the corral fence a few times. 'Dang it, Ben, now she thinks you don't pay attention to what she says!' he chastised himself. Cash looked at Ben with wide, curious eyes. Ben turned and looked at the colt. "Sorry, Cash. Just got a little distracted there." He whispered to the young horse, rubbing the colt's neck. Ben spent the next fifteen minutes in Cash's stall with him, watching the colt as he did regular foal things. Ben admired Cash's energy, and how he didn't seem scared of him sitting in the stall with him. He did seem intimidated of other horses walking by, or people who were loud. Ben would have to remember that when he started training.

All good) Emma walked back to the office, Ben lingering in her mind for a bit and she took note of it. He did seem worthy of the job, but there was also something else. She registered a few newer foal through the AQHA before going to the house and starting up dinner for everyone. She rang the dinner bell and dished up the casserole for everyone before placing the bowls on the large table.

Ben was just about to stand up and go back to his room to unpack more when he heard the dinner bell. He stood, patted Cash's neck and said, "Good boy," before leaving the stall and shutting the gate behind him. He made his way to the house, following the other workers and the smell of casserole. He sat down and nodded his thanks to Emma for the food. . (Hey I have a plot idea. Maybe Emma is dating one of the other guys who works there. We like DraMa :P No need to do it if you don't want to, just an idea :D)

Jeremy walked in and kissed Emma's forehead. "Thank you, babe" he said, sitting down in his spot beside her. "Of course" she said quie5ly. She ate her food and waited for everyone to be done before taking in and doing all the dishes
