Mari looked up at him as she rested her head on his lap, one hand fiddling with his hand, and the other holding onto his arm as he played with her hair. She knew he was trying to help her, but there wasn't much he could do... even if he wanted to. The doctor wasn't doing much... he said everything was going well so she trusted him. She felt better then the first time... which was nice. Not good by any means, but better... but that didn't stop her wanting the pain to subside at all. She watched the doctor walk away before looking up at Sage with furrowed brows, her heart going faster as she tried to control her beating as things were getting worse... she was trying not to cry or whimper or anything, but it was becoming harder and harder as time went on.

Sage sort of just kept an eye on Mari and an eye on the doctor, wanting to know exactly what was going on but also just wanting to comfort his wife. Hopefully, just being able to hold onto him was helping her, at least a little bit. He knew this wasn't easy, but he did trust the doctor, and it was going much better than last time, so really he could only hope that it was over soon and Mari would feel better quickly. As quickly as possible, really. The doctor had mentioned it was almost time for the baby to start pushing it's way out....it had to be what, at least halfway done then? He wasn't sure how long it normally took, but the doctor was calm and collected, as always, and he said it was all fine, so he just had to trust.

Mari shifted uncomfortably, and while she'd been trying to stop, she ended up with tears rolling down her cheeks, though, her chest rising and falling as silent whimpers escaping her. She was working herself up... Sage was there, she was safe, and the doctor said everything was fine... but hell she was terrified. "Sage, I'm scared," she gasped out with a slightly wobbly voice. The doctor came in soon enough with an IV ready incase, but asked her to sit up against a pillow... he was telling her the baby was ready, and that she'd soon need to start pushing... but she was just horrified now.

Sage frowned slightly when the girl started crying and whatnot...but he just kept doing his best to make it as good as it could be. It hurt, and it wasn't easy...he knew that. But he was just glad things were going ok so far. He helped the girl sit up when the doctor told him to, but stayed next to her, holding her. The doctor was fine with it...he could do what he ajd to do, and so could Mari. He pressed a kiss to the side of her head, brushing the sweaty hair out of her face when she admitted she was terrified. "It's alright," he hummed. "You're doing great," he cooed. "It'll be over before you know it, and we'll have another healthy, beautiful baby."

Mari drew in a deep breath as she shuddered about, trying to get comfortable in the way she was told to position herself. But Sage was there, and despite her nerves, he did help. Even just telling her she was doing well, or that everything was going smoothly... it helped. A lot. She was so luckly to have him as her husband... to have someone that had been through so much, and yet still be so claiming and supportive though things like this was really wonderful. The next few house were, admittedly, very rough... her soft sobs turned into ear wrenching yells of pain, and she couldn't stop the tears that rolled own her cheeks, but just as soon as it had started, it had all ended. Mari was passed out on the bed, thankfully cleaned up and the child was... she didn't know. She could only pray that it was fine... healthy and happy, but for now she couldn't so much as open her own eyes.

Sage did what he could to help Mari out, though, each time she cried out it felt like someone was stabbing him in the chest and twisting the knife around. By the time she'd passed out, he was exhausted too. He helped clean up everything though, while the doctor cleaned off the baby and got it clothed and swaddled up. He'd been focused on Mari, so he really hadn't gotten a good look at it...but the doctor had said it was a girl. He was definitely happy...that's what they'd been hoping for, after all. Once the room was clean though, he sort of just...passed out next to Mari. It had been very stressful, and nerve wracking, and he was glad to just be able to rest.

Mari curled up as she slept, trying to find a spot that was comfortable... she still hurt, so much, but the doctor had given her something for the pain... she trusted that it would make her feel better at some point. She wanted to get up and see her baby though... she'd seen a glimpse of it before she had been whisked away, but the doctor said it was a girl... she didn't care what she would have, but she knew Sage was particularly excited for a little girl. She wanted nothing more than to wake up and hold her, to see her little face, but for now she couldn't really do that... she couldn't even force her eyes open, or to uncurl from where she was comfortable, never kind hold a whole baby.

Sage slept for a while, though he woke up before Mari did. He knew she'd wake up hurting and probably hungry...at least that's what the doctor said would happen...so he wandered out to make a simple breakfast quickly for her and then hurry back. He didn't want her to wake up and him not be there. he'd feel awful about it if that happened, really. But she was still curled up sleeping when he got back, so he set the food down quietly and the side table and got a drink, then went back to the bed to curl up next to Mari. He wanted her to wake up so they could meet their baby...he wanted to meet it....but he wanted to wait for her too. But he knew she needed the rest ...so he was ok with waiting a bit, if it helped her. Edited at August 5, 2023 09:33 AM by NightClan

Mari didn't really notice when Sage left her side, but the doctor and at some point come in again. She'd been checking up on her quite a lot, actually... he said everything had gone really well, and that they'd done a really good job... the baby was healthy, and absolutely gorgeous, so the old man was certainly happy. Still, the man was checking in in ensure he hadn't missed anything. Mari had started to wake up s little when she felt Sage slip back in next to her, and kind of turned over the best she could to look over at him. Her eyes fluttered open as she reached out to him, wrapping an arm tightly around him as she buried her face into his neck quietly.

Sage hummed a quiet good morning to the girl when she turned to bury herself in his neck again. "how you feeling," he whispered, moving a bit of hair out of her face and moving it behind her ear, and then absentmindedly going to run his fingers through her hair. His other hand was sort of making a soothing motion up and down her back, though he was really just very happy that it had all gone so well. No one had bee hurt or anything, and now they had a beautiful healthy baby girl. He really couldn't wait to meet her. But he also knew Mari needed a bit of time....a he was willing to wait for her.
