Mari kind of gave a small sigh before nodding. "Don't work yourself too hard then," she murmured quietly, her voice still hoarse and sort from the night prior but not too bad. "If you need some rest then take it... you don't need to be getting ill," she whispered softly. She pressed a soft kiss to his collar before letting out a breath and sitting up. "I'm gonna go get a shower... I'll make you some food after," she whispered before wandering into the bathroom, quickly stopping to stop and pull her bandages off. She frowned when the area around it was all blue and tender, but hopped into the shower quickly anyway.

Sage hummed and shrugged slightly. "I didn't have much of a choice," he pointed out. Though, he nodded in response to her other comment. He stayed in bed for a while, taking every extra minute he could before getting up and putting on something warm and cozy, and wrapping a nice warm blanket around him too as he padded down to the kitchen. He didn't have the mental or physical energy to do too much, but there was some muffin batter left over in the fridge, so he just popped that in the oven quickly so it'd be ready for the kids and Mari. There wasn't much other than that and some meat and veggies....they hadn't had that much money while Mari had been gone....but he was doing his best. He hoped she wouldn't be too upset by it. At least the kids hadn't gone hungry.

Mari stood in the shower for a little while, though not even a minute in the water had started to run cold. She stayed int be shower, but not without letting out a string of rather colourful curses. Fab, no hot water. She stayed in there enough to rinse off, though, before climbing out and going to get changed. Though, she slipped as she stepped out, causing her to land with a small thump, landing on her fist as she did so. She cursed herself again, as her wound reopened and started spouting blood again... it wasn't a massive tear, but enough to have blood pouting out. She struggled to her feet, trying to find some more dressing for it, until she finally got the bleeding to stop and managed to cover it up. She changed into something warm, then padded down the stairs with a frown across her face, then going to sit on the table in the kitchen. "So we have no hot water," she growled to her husband after a moment, going to run her hands over her face with a small huff.

Sage half jumped and then winced at the harsh tone of her voice. Was she really that upset about it? "Sorry," he mumbled after a moment, turning to slide her a plate of muffins and glass of water. He'd forgotten he's turned that off....food had been more important, as had keeping the house had been. They could stand to loose hot water for a while ....they couldn't stand to loose the horses or the house or a meal every day. And there was only so much he could do about it. She had probably looked forward to a warm bath...but she certainly didn't have to snap at him either. He tried to give her some grace, but it had hurt more than he'd let on. He wasn't sure why...maybe he was just scared she'd have changed somehow or something. He didn't know. But he slid into the chair next to her anyway with a sigh, resting his arms on the table and then his chin on his arms.

She just sort of shook her head at him. She still felt gross, her muscles were still aching, and she couldn't even mention the way her muscles were twitching around where she'd been shot. It hurt more now, too, which wasn't too pleasant. She gave him a small nod when he placed the plate infront of her, though still looked a little bit upset. He could have told her there was no warm water. He could have said to her that actually, she should hold off on the bath. She wasn't angry at all, just a bit... saddened, she supposed. She ate quietly, though, her stomach complaining with every bite she took, but continued to swallow anyway... she'd never get better if she didn't eat.

Sage had sort of just lowered his gaze when she shook her head at him, frowning slightly as he tucked his face a bit further into his arms. What did she want him to do about it? Sing abracadabra and suddenly have hot water? He'd sort of just gotten used to warming the water up on the stove and bringing it in to the bathroom to wash the kids. And even that had been like every other day. Soon enough though, he forced himself to his feet with a sort of grunt and wandered over to collect Silas and Lizzie, who he'd heard were up, and brought them into the kitchen. There weren't many muffins left, so Silas got two and Lizzie got one, and he sort of just sat down to convince Lizzie to eat hers, since they no longer had any milk. It had gotten much too expensive the past few weeks, so she'd been eating solid foods more, simply because she had too. He felt awful about it but....he'd done everything he could. She was eating, and he could only be grateful for that, he supposed.

Mari watched as he tried to get the little girl to eat the muffin... she was starting to eat solid foods now, anyway, but she was a bit confused why he was so adamant that she had to eat the muffin. She stood up and looked around the place, going through all the cupboards and the likes to make sure everything was alright... thought much to her disappointment there wasn't really anything in there. She placed a hand to her forehead and looked back to Sage worriedly, though couldn't stop her slightly harsher words. "Sage, what the fuck?" She hissed as she kind of frantically looked around, though knocked her side with one of the kitchen chairs and let out a much harsher string of curses.

Sage sort of half flinched away from the woman when she hissed at him, obviously heasitant to say or do anything in response, though he did reach for her when she hit her side on the chair. "Mari, calm down," he half begged. "You're gonna hurt yourself again," he yelped, really not wanting her to wind up opening her side up again, even if she was yelling at him. The kids had sort of looked over at them worriedly too, and Lizzie had sort of started to whimper, so he turned to make sure the little girl was calmed down too before turning back to Mari, admittedly a bit...unsure of how she'd respond to him telling her to calm down. He'd done his best....was she really this upset about it? She'd never yelled at him, not once...and all of a sudden she was quite literally cussing at him. Which was certainly a new experience, and one he definitely didn't exactly like.

The girl sort of shot him a glare when he started telling her to calm down. She'd already hurt herself that morning... and she didn't need to to open up even more. She did regret her actions, though, when she heard her daughter start to whimper, in response her brows furrowing as she took a step over to her, but by then Sage was already seeing to it that she was alright. She was over reacting, and she was worried, but... more upset that Sage hadn't said anything. Not about the water, or the fact that they barely had any food in the house. She was emotional anyway, but this didn't help the matter one bit. She just sort of shook her head and rubbed her eyes. "I'm gonna... go back to bed," she whispered to him before turning off to wander back up the stairs, where she flopped down on the bed with a heavy sigh, just trying to get some comfort in her own bed.

Sage sort of just nodded in response to her comment, watching her go back upstairs with a frown forming on his face. He couldn't help the doubts that were running through his head, but he let out a sort of sigh and moved to clean up the kids's plates and wipe the table off. At least he didn't have to explain to her why he wasn't eating anything...she'd just assume he'd eaten. Hopefully. And hopefully she'd calm down a bit, because her yelling hadn't exactly helped him out at all. He'd been so happy for her to come home....he still was so, so glad she was here and alright... But all she'd done was yell at him. It didn't exactly bring back the nicest memories, especially the way his mind already was. And he couldn't help but worry that this relationship would end up like all the others. It wasn't sensible, he knew that, but he did worry. He eventually just went to take care of the horses, coming back around lunch time to make some rather pathetic looking sandwiches for Silas and Mari, and some sliced up bits of the inside and bread for Liz. Once the kids were settled, he crept upstairs with her food, setting it down on the table next to her. "It's lunchtime, babe," he hummed softly, half reaching out to rub her on the back and sit down on the bed, but then reconsidering and standing there heasitantly for a moment before buying his lip and deciding to just leave her alone. He really wasn't sure if he could handle her snapping at him again.
