Hey y'all!

For those of you who dont know me, I am Nyx and I travel a lot! I grew up in a small town and Tennessee for the first several years of my life and then one of my parents joined the military. I have moved around a ton and definitley have some travel stories, tips and tricks to share.

You may be wondering "what makes you qualified to write this post, you are only a military brat." And Yes that may be true, while I am "only a military brat" I have definitley had my fair share of experiences and not all of them are smooth. I have moved from Tennessee to Virginia, and during that time I had travelled to and vacationed in North Carolina, South Carolina, DC(although DC is not a state, it is very daunting), Maryland, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio. After living in Virginia for 7 years, my family moved to Australia where we lived for 3 years. I travelled to various cities in Australia (by plane, train, bus and car), New Zealand, Rarotonga, Thailand and Singapore. And now I am here, in Washington state and I have just come back from a cross country trip to Tennessee and Georgia.

I am happy to answer any questions below and I will post at least once a week with whatever tips, tricks and important things I remember! For now thank you for visiting and I hope you find this useful or helpful in some way!

<3 Nyx

Tip #1: Lists

If you have ever travelled, perhaps you have forgot something. A toothbrush? Underwear? Shampoo? Whatever it may be and even if you haven't had the experience of forgetting something, I highly recommend making lists of everything you need and everything you are taking with you wherever you are travelling.

I like to organize my lists into sections. The first section tells exactly how much clothing I am carrying; this is how many pairs of socks, pairs of shoes, shirts, pants/shorts ect I am bringing with me. The second section is toiletries. Now for the toiletries section, I only include whatever items I will use when I am in the bathroom that I can pack the night before I leave. Otherwise, everything else goes to the essentials section. The essentials section is what I will need to pack the morning of. Although this section may not apply to you, I tend to travel early in the morning so I wake up and immediatley get ready and dont want to forget anything. This could be my phone charger, wallet, toothbrush, hairbrush, deoderent ect.

As you go along and put things in your bag, cross them off of your list and if you take them out, put a star next to them. Sometimes we pack things that we think we will not need in the morning and then we end up taking them back out to use them and may forget that they are no longer in the bag but are elsewhere. This is one of the ways things get left behind.

Another huge bonus to lists that are very detailed is that you have an inventory of everything you have. I always recommend (especially for people travelling by boat or plane) that you take photos of everything in your luggage and have a round about estimate of the value of the items. If your luggage gets lost or stolen, you then have a list of how much each item costs and photos to prove you owned these items and they were in your suitcase. I've had my luggage lost in the Thailand airport and several items were stolen from the airport staff including some jewlery (that followed all regulations, laws and customs rules) that was quite valuable and I did not have photo proof of ownership.

So make lists and inventory EVERYTHING it could save you in the future.
