My budgies recently got a massive cage upgrade and I chucked over half their old toys and perches that were on their way out. I have a pear tree, which I get perches from. However I'm stuggling a lot with toys. They love tearing paper and other thin materials, any other bird owners on HEE who make their own bird toys with ideas? They rarely have more than one dowel in their cage by the way, I am just trying to give them easy access to the bottom until the pear tree perches are done. Edit: Since taking this I've added 7 more toys, still looking super empty though DX Edited at December 10, 2023 04:34 AM by Kiwi Mountains

Paper towel tubes! My bird adores those and will physically steal them from me lol. . When I get the chance, it's also fun to stuff paper shreddings inside of it, and then tie the ends down with bird-safe string. A hole puncher can help with the ends, and also give them access to the paper inside. There are a few sources of string, so you just have to find the most convenient for you. :) .

You might also try the little cat toys... The little plastic balls with bells in them. They're not DIY, but they are inexpensive and durable! I find bells to be very popular amongst most of the birds I've worked with.
